Gifts are practical
Tabletop, houseware, bed and bath
items are still popular and practical
(NC) - Brides today arc showing a surprising
preference for non-traditional gifts say the gift
consultants.
Whether they live in small towns like Port aux
Basques, Newfoundland or large cities like Toronto,
Ontario, we're seeing that brides-to-be are becoming
more practical with their gift lists," says Claudine
Verge, Special Occasions gift consultant.
"Tabletop, houseware, bed and bath items arc still
very popular, but there's a definite trend toward
nontraditional requests such as lawn mowers,
Craftsman tools, and home safety items such as
smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors,"
Verge says.
"Group gifts" are another emerging trend that has
been noticed -and not only among brides but gift
givers as well. With such a broad 'selection and
wide assortment of goods, sown-to-bewed couples
have an unprecedented breadth of gift choices.
This means that couples have the option of
considering smaller, inexpensive merchandise aloag
with pricier big-ticket items such as major
appliances or furniture.
Often when invited guests call in to inquire about a
particular bride's gift list, they express immediate
interest in knowing what, if any, big-ticket items
have been requested. It scans that more and more
people like the idea of pooling their funds together
to buy a large, expensive item which they could
never afford on their own.
And, speaking of invited guests, we're also seeing
MOM and more outof-town gift givers seeding gifts
ahead instead of bringing them on the trip to a
wedding. It not only makesthe trip less burdensome,
but it's also a smart, courteous thing to do. Think
about it.
Newlyweds won't have to worry about such things
as theft or how to get the gifts from the ceremony tc
a safe place while they go off on their honeymoon.
Blue symbolizes purity and love
Blue symbolizes purity, fidelity and love. It
is also associated with the purity of the Virgin
Mary.
In So'tth America, brides used to wear a pale
blue petticoat under their wedding gown as
the "something blue."
(By the way; the complete rhyme is:
Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something
blue
And a lucky sixpence in your shoe.)
