George and Mayor Irwin Johnston and his wife Doreen, President John •Lansink and his wife Penny, Ladies Auxiliary Br. 156 Pat Schellenberger and her hus- band Steve,- 1st Vice President Linda Gridzak and David Watson and 2nd Vice President, Jim Watson and his wife Betty. Head table guests were piped in by Greg McPherson. Mayor Johnston brought greetings from the town of Seaforth and stated that Nov. 3rd -lith had been designated Veterans week. Zone Seaforth Legion by Barbara Scott Comman• der DeJong brought greetings from the other branches in Zone Cl as did Deputy Zone Commander Ladies Auxiliary Young. President Pat Schellenberger on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary made the presenta- tion of a cheque for $5,000 to the Branch to help on the refurbishing of the down- stairs lounge. Everyone present enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by Fern Chesney's committee. They were thanked by 2nd Vice President Jim Watson. "The Harmony Highlights" under the direction of Marg Whitmore entertained those present. This was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present. Sunday the annual Church Parade was held to St. James Catholic Church. The large parade was headed by mem- bers of Brussels Pipe Band. Winners of the •October draw for Early Bird member- ships arc Eva Brown, Ken Oldacrc, Harry Jansen and Beth Tobin. Be an Early Bird pay your dues by Nov. 30. There are membership cards ready to be picked up at the Branch. Members from Branch 341 Parkhill will be guests at our Legion on November 16th at approximately 5:30 p.m. Come and welcome them to Branch 156. ' The members of Branch 156 were saddened recently to hear of the death of Comrade Mike Feeney. To his family and -friends we extend our sincere sympathy. Joint CWL meeting visits Seaforth Food Bank The November meeting of the St. Columban Catholic Women's League was held on Tuesday, November, 5 combined with Seaforth St. James C.W.L. ladies. We met at the Seaforth food bank, had a tour of the bank and then Debra Bennett explained the needs of the food bank and how it operates. Our business meetings [were held at the St. James Separate School followed by lunch and social. From the correspondence St. Columban by Cecilia Ryan 345-2028 an invitation was- received from thc St. Patrick's C.W.L. of Kinkora to. their Snowflake Bazaar on Saturday, November 23 at the Kinkora School gym from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also to_ the St. James C.W.L. Bazaar on Saturday, November 30 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Si. James School. There will _be ticket draws, penny sale and tea room. Rosaries will be purchased for the St. Columban children who made their First Holy •Communion. The C.W.L. Christmas din- ner will be on Tuesday, December 3. Thank you cards will he sent to Warren Bennewies #nd Total Image II for their donation of door prizes for the annual Harvest Dance. Door prize winners at thc Harvest Dance were Jack. Flanagan, Ken Flanagan, Bill Stacey and Mary _ Ann Lealess. Gerry and Karen Ryan and Cecilia Ryan attended thc 50th birthday party for James D. MacRae at the MacRae home in London on Saturday evening. Relatives of J.D. and Marg and their friends and neighbours also attended. Pat Subject, Carrie, Jeff and Nathan of Kitchener visited on Sunday with Cecilia Ryan. Hustling to complete projects for bazaar The autumn season is always a favourite time of the year for everyone at Maplewood. Residents boarded the van and headed for Main Street to jointhe crowd to watch the fall fair parade. It was great to see the enthusiasm of the youngsters. Everyone Tikes a parade! The fall season always means a fashion show at Maplewood. Geri Fashions of London brought a great display of fall and winter fashions for everyone to choose from. Viola Lawson, Bea Kale, Helen Nott, Marjory Maloney and Hazel McGonigle did a wonderful job modelling for our fashion show. Door prizes were won by Herta Brodhagen, Beatrice Stoll and Leona Scott. Residents enjoyed a ride through thc countryside to view the beautiful sights of autumn. It certainly was fun following the directions from all thc back scat drivers! Maplewood Church services for the month were held with Pastor Lucas; Rev. Vandermey, Rev. Jane Kucpfer, Rev. Hauser and Rcv. Stadclhaucr-Sampa. Their visits are greatly appre- ciated. As Nov 30. is quickly approaching, thc baking club and craft classes arc hustling to complete their projects for our Christmas Bazaar and Tea. We have a great selec- tion Of Christmas decorations and crafts as well as Naked goods. Hope you can come! Residents ended the month preparing for the Halloween festivities. Aftcr carving pumpkins and packaging candy, residents were ready to enjoy all the visits from the trick or treaters. Trip to fair enjoyed During the month of October residents enjoyed an outing to Seaforth Fall Fair as well as a bus trip to Auburn, Bcnmillcr and Goderich to view the fall col- ors: This was an enjoyable day for everyone. • Thc Baking Club baked several batches of carrot pineapple muffins which were sampled following Bingo. An evening of guitar music and gospel singing was pto- vided by Dale Carr. Providing the entertainment for the Western Days dance were Jack and Irene Vincent of Exeter. Laura Farrell from the Huron County Health Unit presented a very infor- mative inservicc on "Infection Control" as part of the Manor's "Health and Safety Week." Winncr of the "Big Shot Challenge" was Mary • Fothcringham and winner of (Seaforth Manor Nursing Home the Hazard Scavenger Hunt was Pat Bishack. Congratulations also go out to Isobel Sturdy who won thc draw put on by thc Healthy Heart Program. Thc movie "Up Close and Personal" was enjoyed as well during October. Piano music was provided by Marion Rose and Bill Gipson. Conducting our wor- ship services for Oct. wcrc Rev. Kucpfcr, Rcv. Chcryl- Ann, Rcv. Vandcrmcy, Rcv. Lucas and Rev. Hiscox. , A special Lawrence Welk Halloween show was enjoyed followed by Halloween treats and apple cider. Special thanks to all the ghosts and goblins who visit- ed the Manor for Halloween.
