Summer Fun program offers variety
BY DAVID SCOTT
Expositor Editor
The Seaforth Recreation
Department's Summer Fun
program kicked off Monday
and continues to August 9 for
children ages three to 12.
This is the seventh year
Peggy Ryan has been
involved in the program.
She's been program supervi-
sor for three years and was
previously a leader for four
years. The two other leaders
this year include Jill Wood
and Lori Nigh.
What's interesting about the
program is the variety of
scheduling options for par-
ents. There are rates for the
entire five week program, for
one week or more and daily
rates. As well "before and
after" care is available for a
very low rate from 8 to 9 a.m.
and 4 to 5 p.m.
Each week there's a special
trip planned. These trips are
also open to the general pub-
lic. On Tuesday,•July 16
younger children will visit
Story Book Gardens in
London and older children
will take a trip to Wally
World. There's an outing
planned to the African Lions
Safari on Tuesday, July 23.
On Thursday, August 1,
Summer Fun participants will
head to the Goderich Beach.
And on Thursday, August 8 a
trip is planned to Pioneer
Sports World.

YOU'RE ITt - Volunteer Cheryl Ribey, centre, runs away from Summer Fun participants in
a game of `frozen tag" on Monday, the first day of the five-week summer program.
"We're always looking for
volunteers who want to go on
the trips," said Ryan.
"It's a great program for
everybody," says the supervi-
sor. "It's affordable for the
parents, the children enjoy it.
It's child -centred activity."
Working with Summer Fun
is helping with her future
plans to teach. Presently
she's enrolled in teacher's
college at Brock University.
A variety of.activities are
planned for the children
including crafts and games,
ball hockey, bowling, picnics,
swimming, mud day and
other assorted events.

Summer Fun program is the

Pool makes waves with programs
BY MIKE HENDERSON
PROGRAM DIRECTOR
The Seaforth Lions Pool is
making waves this summer
by adding numerous new
programs to our curriculum.
The Canadian Red Cross cel-
ebrates this year 50 years in
thc water services depart-
ment, with the introduction
of a brand new water safety
program,.tt t„replace,s.the,
existing colour program.
Aquaquest, is the brand new
program that consists of 12
levels with progressions that
arc much more obtainable by
the swimming candidate.
With the new program there
'is no longer the big gaps
between certain levels. If you
did not get a chance to regis-
ter your child for session one,
the Seaforth Lions Pool will
be accepting. registrations in
person for session two (July
22 -August 9) beginning this
week. No phone registrations
will be accepted. The follow-
ing conversion guide below
has been provided to assist
you: Aquaquest 1: 5 years of

It is our goal this year to
provide you with even more
access to current information
about your child's progress.
This will be- accomplished
through issuing reports on

your child's progress half-
waythrough the session. As
well, new this summer is par-
ent's day. On the second
Monday of every session par-
ents/caregivers can put on a
bathing suit and join the
class.
A couple of inquiries have
been made regarding adult
lessons. The new Red Cross
Water Safety Program does
consist of a program that is
aimed at adults who arc inter-
ested in taking lessons.
Aquaadults is based on thc
premise that each. individual
determines their goals and
rate of progress based on
their ability and interests. If
you are interested in taking
adult lessons, contact the
pool at 527-0950 before
Friday, July 12 so you can be
placed on a list. If interest
persists, a time that suits all
participants will he allotted
for an adult swim program,
that will he six weeks in
duration and begin the week
of July 15.
The Seaforth Lions Pool
will be holding its 3rd annual
Fun Day, Sunday, July 14
beginning at 9 a.m. The event
is for children between the
agcs of five and 12 and is
free of charge. Parents must
register their child in order to
ensure that consent has been
given. Registration for the
event can be done at the pool.
The day kicks off at 9 a.m.
with a variety of fun packed
