The model of a Stearman "Monstrous" model in the works at Egmondville BY GREGOR CAMPBELL Expositor Staff •Harry Mcro and his young next door neighbour, seven- year-old Bill Leppington arc plotting to soar ag:lin - from a Kase in thc Mcro's interesting Egmondville garage. They arc building a model plane - a hig oho - with a 10 - foot wingspan that is radio - controlled and powered by controlled powered by a 95cc, 7 1 /2 -horsepower engine. It is a 1/3 scale, P17 Stcarman, a model of the ver- satile Nigger hi -plane famous for crop dusting and often seen doing stunt work in air shows. It is a common trainer built by' Boeing, introduced in the ,1930s. The model will weigh about 50 pounds when finished. port makes waves t B"Y MICHELE GREENE SSP News Staff A suspensions report led to disagreement among trustees at the June 24 meeting of the Huron -Perth Roman Catholic Separate School Board. Trustees were given details on thc rtumber and reason for suspensions from March 29 to June 19. Some were concerned with • seven suspensions from St. Anne's Catholic Secondary School in -Clinton and 13 by Stratford's St. Amhrosc School. The Board says the St. Anne's suspensions were for "conduct injurious to the moral tone of the school or to thc physical or mental well- being of others, and Superintendent actan Blanchette says they were related to one incident. He adds the figures for St. Amhrosc arc also not an accurate reflection. Thcrc were no suspensions at Seaforth St. James: Dublin St. Patrick's, St. Columhan, or Kinkora school's in the recent two -and -a -half months reported. There were a total of four suspensions during the same period at Stratford St. Michael secondary, two at Goderich St. Mary's elemen- tary, and one suspension each handed out at Precious Blood. St. Aloysius, Kingsbridge St. Joseph's and Clinton St. Joseph's. Police warn of fake bills Provincial police at Godcrich say some fun/ty money is circulating in this area. Last week's press release from the community service officer of the Goderich OPP says they arc sawbucks, "dur- ing this past week, numerous counterfeit $10 hills have been. found by local mer- chants and financial institu- tions." Police advise "this $10 hill appears to he faded, has a dif- ferent texture and looks smaller. Front plate of Bill is numbered 63. "The serial numbers of counterfeit hills arc BDF8620332, BDE6892235, and BDF1332962." Harry says he and his part- ner have already put in about 100 hours on the balsa, spruce and plywood model. but the work is only about one-third done. It will have a range of about four miles - the same as another smaller model of a Citabria they built before - then crashed earlier this year in a field by the Bruccficld school. • "BUYS THE FARM" A four -mile range may, sound dandy, Harry explains, the problem is you can't see a miniature plane so far away, and with all the loops and rolls last March. it simply ran out of fuel. Oops! So it was hack to the draw- ing board. The pieces of this model that "bought thc farm" now hang on Iht' wall of the shop. They also built an identical 1/5 scale Citahria which remains operational, com- plete with floats. they have -flown in several events this year. Harry says he has a soft spot for this amphibious craft. It was the last kind of real plane he owned. He has had his pilot license since the early 1980s but now he just rents a plane when he wants to visit the skies, up close and personal. • He saps there are several clubs in the arca (Godcrich, Stratford and London) that cater to model plane enthusi- asts. and stage their own mini- air shows. When the new Stcarman gets finished this aeronautical pair hopes to attract some other enthusiasts by flying somewhere in Seaforth. 'The problem is finding A big enough field, sufficiently free or wires. Mcro says. Long-term care initials change with government Governments have changed so Community Care Access Centres (CCACs) are replac- ing Multi -Service Agencies (MSAs) in long-term care and the Ontario Ministry of Health has named a county board of directors for an as - yet -to be formed Huron CCAC. This volunteer board includes Yvonne Kitchen, Ralph Smith, Jack Lane, Allan Hall, Janis Bray, Charles Baxter, : Gayle Sargeant, Valarie Hopkins, Joyce Scotchmer, Brock Vodden, Brian Baker and Glen Phillips. They first responded to newspaper advertisements and calls for applicants at public meetings. MSAs were established by the NDP but were scrapped by the PCs in favour of CCACs. The health ministry now says the former Multi -Service Agencies "were bureaucrat- ic, eliminated choice and favoured organized labour at the expense of volunteers," according to its recent press release.
