Students working toward a common goal
THE HURON EXPOSITOR, July 3, 19907
VALEDICTORY
ADDRESS
BY JEN DELVECCHIO
Since day one, we have all
worked toward a common
goal. To make it through nine
years of elementary school
until graduation night.
Tonight. Now we meet a fork
in the road. With no help
from anyone, we must choose
which path we will take.
Through a lifetime of deci-
sions, we are ready to head
off in our own directions and
chase our dreams so that we
can find our destinies. Of
course we all prefer familiar,
comfortable things, but
change is all . around us.
There is no denying it. It hap-
pens whether we like it or
not, for better or for worse.
We have to live with what it
brings because sooner or
later, the new wind of change
will blow and everything will
again become unfamiliar.
With no light to shed upon
the road, the choice is made
much more difficult.
There are many ways to
look at this fork in the road.
You may view it as the end.
Your public school life
behind you. But your learn-
ing will never stop and you
will never forget the memo-
ries that we share and the
people who brought you
these memories. Others may
look at it as the beginning.
We are moving into the real
world and beginning to live
for ourselves. This means
that we will have to learn to
accept and deal with what
this brings. For those people
who see the glass to be half
empty, you may also see
graduation to be the begin-
ning of the end. Our roads

will be bumpy and unpre-
dictable at times. You must
always look towards the light
at the end of the tunnel, and
whenever there is a chance,
be the light for someone else
who is less fortunate. Many
of us however are thankful
for the sturdy foundation that
Huron Centennial has given
us so that we may stand
strong in the winds of wis-
dom and change that help us
to move on in our lives.
These winds show us that our
graduation is just the end of
the beginning.
Time goes by so fast andso
many people move in and out
of our lives. We move to new
places, are greeted with new
opportunities and faced with
new problems. So many peo-
ple who sometimes are taken
for granted help us to see
through these changes and.
we must never miss an
opportunity to tell these peo-
ple how much they mean to
us. Let me be the first to say
that you are as dear to, me as
family. When I joined this
graduating class in grade
three, I was welcomed with
warm, outstretched arms and
great people. Every day for
the next six years we were
always there for each other,
welcoming' the new arrivals
and departures from our
class, teaching each other
new lessons. Lessons that
cannot be taught from any
text book. Lessons taught
through personal experience
concerning with life. These
lessons will help us to reach
our dreams. If it hadn't been
for you, my life would never
have been the same. I
wouldn't trade a second of
the time I've spent growing
together with you for any-
thing in the world. The mem-
ories I have from Huron
Centennial School are the
best memories I have.
May God hold you in
palm of his hand. Until
meet again.

Hard to believe we are done
VALEDICTORY
ADDRESS
BY CASSANDRA VINK
Priests, honored guests,
teachers, family and gradu-
ates. It is my privilege as
valedictorian to welcome all
of you here tonight to our
1996 grade 8 graduation.
Congratulations to all the
graduates for completing nine
years in elementary school. It
is hard to believe that we are
finally done. Alsocongratula-
tions to our parents, teachers
and priests in assisting us in
our education. I am sure it
was difficult, frustrating and
trying of patience at times. It
was difficult for us too, but
also there were fun, exciting
and joyful times.
I would like to thank our
parents for helping us in our
life and education, our teach-
ers for teaching us to try and
try again until we succeeded,
and our priests for being there
to encourage us. Right from
the beginning of school we
needed help and we received
it.
In kindergarten with Mrs.
Ryan, the Suns and the Stars
were taught to count to 100,
to say the alphabet and that
"we didn't get things from
Christmas, we got them from
someone at Christmas." In
Grade 1 with Mrs. Murray or
Mrs. Doherty we practiced
addition and subtraction. In
Grade 2 we were prepared for
our First Holy Communion.
In Grade 3 we learned many
things like how to write with
Mrs. Doherty, Mrs. Gaffney
and Mr. Farwell. In Grade 4
and 5 we made up songs and
had many theme days with
Mrs. Devereaux and Mrs.
Core. Also some people had
Mr. Polkiewicz in Grade 5 or
6. Mrs Brown and the Grade
6's had a Mexican fiesta and
other fun things. In Grade 7
1
many of us had Mr. Steffler
and Mr. Robinson. Lastly,
Grade 8 with Mrs. McCotter,
when we were all in the same
class for the first time in ele-
mentary school. Throughout
the year Mrs. McCotter tried
to prepare us for high school.
Overall I think it was'a great
year especially our confirma-
tion and our graduation trip.
Thanks to Madame Melady
for teaching us French from
Grade 4 to Grade 8. We also
appreciate our principal Mr
Capelli and secretary, Mrs.
Van Loon.

This is just the first step in
our education. We are here as
a group tonight but we are all
individuals with different
hopes and dreams. I hope
each of us takes the opportu-
nity to live out these hopes
and dreams.
I would like to extend the
best of luck in high school
and future years to my fellow
graduates. The days just flew
l Y, but now that they are
gone, I.know our memories
will still live on.
