"is not that bad."

Something For Everyone was
burnt out. The stairwells are
still intact. But the roof is
pretty well all off, said the
Fire Chief. -
Co-owner Michael Anstett
said a dollar estimate on
damage or building replace-
ment cost has not yet been
determined by insurance
adjusters. The building had
hcen up for sale for the past
few years.
Anstett had praise for the
local fire department. "They
did a super job. The Seaforth
Fire Department and Clinton
and Goderich are to be com-
mended for keeping the fire
confined."
At 5:45 a.m. on Monday,
the fire started smoldering
again toward the back end of
the building where roof
'debris had fallen, said
Garrick. Six Seaforth firemen
went up with a couple of
hoses and the pumper truck
" and extinguished the hot
spots in about half an hour.
The alarm was not sounded.
Because the alarm was
sounded so early on Sunday,
many of the firemen had not
eaten any breakfast before
putting on their heavy equip-
ment and oxygen masks to
fight the fire. Spouses of
local fireman, volunteers and
businesses donated water,
pop and sandwiches to keep
up the energy of those fight-
ing the blaze. Garrick said
the food and drinks were
greatly appreciated by the
local and visiting fire depart-
ments.
The last fire on Main Street,
Seaforth was directly across
the street; above--the--present-
location of Tucker's Meat
Shop in February 1983.
Sunday's fire was one of
the worst Garrick has had to
deal with. in town since
becoming chief in 1985.
