THE CHAMPIONS! ,
From March 10 to 13 the -
Seaforth Sizzlerg, Twcen A
Ringette team, represented
Scaforth and Western Region
at the , Provincial
Championships in true cham-
pionship style. This group of
11 girls not only won six of
seven games to bring home
the gold medal bbt also was
awarded the Sportsmanship
Trophy. an additional honour
tor the :team and coaching
staff. •
Round-robin Oh. began at
9:00 Sunday morning against
Pickering. The closc check-
ing of the Pickering squad
combined with the small ice
surface put the Sizzlers off
their game plan and they lost
3-2; however. things were
hack on• track for their after-
noon game when they,deleat-
ed Gloucester 7-2.
Day two of the tournament
opened with a game against
Thunder Bay. The first period
ended in a 1-1 tic, however,
during the second half the
Sizzlers' offensive machine
fired Up to score four more
and their dynamite defense
allowed only oncito win the

game 5-2. Having only man-
aged a tic against West Ferris
a month ago in the Kitchener
tournament, the Sizzlers
.knew thc ncxt gamc was
going to be tough. Down 4-2
with just five minutes left in
the game, the Sizzlers fought
back to tic the score which
held to thc end of regulation
time. With hcarts pounding
• and knees shaking - and that
was just the parents - the
Sizzlers dominated the play
in sudden -death overtime tak
ing just 1:33 to nct the win-
ner.
The final day -of round-
robin play started with a
game against Ajax. a tcam
with an excellent record this
season. Seaforth came out
strong and held a 3-1 lead at
the half. The Sizzlers
increased their lead to three
in the opening seconds and
then responded to two Ajax
goals with two more.01 their
own to take the game, 6-3. In
thc final game against
Hamilton the strong Seaforth
offense found the weakness
in thc Hamilton defense and
went on a scoring romp net-
ting nine goals. while the
Sizzlers' awesome defensive
squad held Hamilt9n to only
two.
At thc cnd of round-robin:
play. the Sizzlers stood tied
for first -place anxiously
awaiting the outcome of/ a
game. between Ajax and
Pickering. Ajax won that
.game giving the Seaforth.
• girls'a hyc to the final game
. and setting up a rematch
between Ajax and -Pickering
for the other spot in the
championship game. In a
close -fought match, Ajax
advanced to the final.
This was it, the gold -
medal game, and the Sizzlers
camc out flying. Thanks to
outstanding goal -tending on
thc part of Sarah Agar,
Seaforth took a 3-0 lead. The
Ajax coach called a time out
with two minutes, left in the
first .and whatever he said to
his team certainly worked
because Ajax scored two
goals in 21 seconds to narrow
Seaforth's advantage to one at
the cnd of the period. The
Sizzlers, however. were not
going to let this one get away.
By the half -way point of
thc second they had tallied
two more.and allowed Ajax
only one. For over eight min-
utes Ajax tried to find the net
but a total team effort by the
Sizzlers kept them from find-
ing their mark.. Buzzer.
CHAMPIONS!
Thc girls were still con-
gratulating each other on the
