While municipalities were given new powers to levy fees under Bill 26, Eves stressed that amendments to the bill will prevent local poll taxes or gasoline taxes and they may employ only 'reasonable,' licensing fees. But he said that these fees cannot be used "simply os a tool to raise revenue:" Eve -s said the government took. into consideration munic- ipalities' "ability to pay" when making cuts to transfers. He noted rural municipalities, which do not have the large industrial and commercial tax bases of cities were hit less severely than their urban coun- terparts. "For exatnple, municipal grants in Huron County were cut, on average, by 16 per cent, while in Ottawa and Toronto, they were reduced by an aver- age of 28.5 per cent." The finance minister conced- ed the Tories have done a poor job of communicating the rea- soning behind their cutbacks, as they focused on spending reductions and said they would be intensifying efforts in this area in the future. Eves spoke glowingly of Huron MPP Helen Johns con- tribution to the government's efforts, particularly on Bill 26. "Her contribution was essen- tial to the passage of Bill 26, the Savings and Restructuring Act, and as minister responsi- ble, I would like to thank her." Parr Line's Glenda Chaput 'goes down quick' to her knees, shoots and scores three goals. A single goal goes to Bev Shea. Lots of quick passes by Cheryl Kruse, Bonnie O'Reilly, Sandra Wilson and Norah Eckert. Much different score than from the tournament, ladies. WINTHROP _5 SOCIALS_ 1 Yes! Our Tracey Eckert scores a real goal and not on her own teammates. She is ecstatic, thrilled, overjoyed and no help was needed. However, Winthrop ladies are outdoing themselves with five goals. Scoring gots out to Donna Arts, Janice Finlayson and Jen Gallagher, assistance from Christi Leonhard!, while wee Aunt Deb was no where to be found! EASY RIDERS 1 (:RADS 2 The only goal for Riders was scored by Jeff Hoelscher with back-up help from Rob Hunking and Derek Turner. The Grads squeeze through this game with only 23 seconds left in the game. Martin Wynja pops in his second goal. He couldn't have managed this without help from Mac O'Neil and Al Wynja. 1 guess Mr. C. Goris was out shipping hogs. CYCLONES 2 DUMPS 1 Dumpers lonely goal was scored by Bill Dale as he Clips the ball over the opposing goalie's shoulder. Quick wrist pass by Brett Finlayson and Jerry Wright. Cyclones, Adam J. O'Neil has energy to burn as he blasts two awesome goals by the dumper goalie who never had a chance. He didn't have much back-up or defensive help either. Cyclones give credit to Mike Dooreleyers and Brian Ropp for their excellent passes to Mr. O'Neil. Hope he didn't have trouble removing his helmet. Great game fcllas! RAIDERS 0 WINTHROP 2 Raiders didn't seem to get any breaks on scoring or from the refs! But Winthrop pulled. it off for a win as Mike Thomas and Dan Hoggart score two perfect goals, assisted by Bruce Pcarn and Bl:,ule Marks. ROYALS 0 KNIGHTS 1 Both goalies made plenty of saves but unfortunately one sneaked in on the Royals as the -Knights' Jeff Campbell scores! He then asks himself, 'which broom do I use?'
