Due to inclement weather, attendance was down a little. After supper, Steve Hildebrand of Hildebrand Flowers demonstrated Christmas floral arrangements and generously donated two of these as door prizes. • Two long-time members of the society, Ruth Beuttenmiller and Mary McLeod were presented with life memberships in the society. President Helen McNaughton presented this year's service certificate and trophy to incoming president Eleanor Horst. Nancy Kale presented a president's pin to Eleanor and a past president's pin to Helen McNaughton, as well as a gift certificate as a token of thanks for her service as president for the past four years. The new executive of the society are as follows: President, Eleanor Horst; Secretary, Olave Little; Treasurer, Dilys Finnigan; District Rep., Corry Klaver. The positions of 1st and 2nd vice-president remain open at this time. Parish children receive first Communion Solemn Communion was' celebrated on Sunday, Nov. 26, Feast Day of Christ the King, for 10 children of St. Columban Parish, who received their First Holy Communion individually earlier this year. Auxiliary gets report on annual convention The Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary November meeting was held recently in Conference Room 2 at Seaforth Community Hospital. President Margaret M. Lee welcomed everyone and opened the meeting with a poem 'A thought for today' and recited the Auxiliary prayer. Reports were approved as read. President Lee read the correspondence and a thank you from Bill Thibert, CEO, thanking the Auxiliary for the purchase of an emergency stretcher and a thank you Post Office Canada Post will be saying 'thanks' to their customers at the Hensall Post Office with a Customer Appreciation Day, Dec. 14. Children will be interested to know they can drop off their letters to Santa Claus at the Hensall Post Office. Santa's address is: Santa Claus, North Pole, HOH OHO, Canada. To ensure a speedy reply children should include their name and return address on both letter and envelope. Children living on a rural route should include their parent's name. The Boy Scouts will be selling Christmas trees at Ken Clarke's house at 108 Queen St. Pine, spruce and balsam are available at $20 each. Communion will be observed at Carmel Presbyterian Church, Dec. 3. P.C.W. of Carmel church will meet at 7 pm, Dec. 4. This will be their pot luck dinner. ,Hospital ,Auxiliary from Lois Churchward on winning the grocery basket. Susan Dick gave the final procedures for the Tree of Lights Program. Margaret Smale gave the bazaar report which proved successful. Gross proceeds were $557. Margaret thanked everyone for their generous support of this project. Plans were made for the Christmas meeting with a social at 6 pm and potluck supper at 6:30 pm on Dec. 12 in Conference Doom 2. Reports were given on the HAAO Convention held at the Royal York and Metro Toronto Convention Centre Nov. 6-8. President Lee gave the HAAO annual meeting report. The guest speaker was Jeff Mowatt - How to work with just about anybody, co- workers, patients, and people' with attitudes, and team -work within our Auxiliary. appreciates customers Hensall by Liz Sangster 262-2715 Hensall and District Horticulture Society met last Monday for its Christmas meeting. A potluck supper was enjoyed followed by Susan Hartman relating just what the local library has to interest gardeners. Susan was thanked by Liz Sangster. Ann Overweel, president, chaired the meeting for a short business session. Six lucky people went home with a Christmas plant. Communion was celebrated at Hensall United Church. Rev. Henry Annen's message was `Christ the King'. The children's special story was 'A Shoe Box Gift'. You, your family, and friends are invited to join us at the 10th Annual Christmas Tree -Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 pm at the Village Hall. Outside enjoy the village welcome, spiritual message, festive song, Santa's arrival and the tasty hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee. At 7:15 pm Santa, with the assistance of the Hensall Volunteer Firemen, will lead those wishing to go skating to the arena. This skating from 7:30 - 8:20 pm is free and is brought to you by the Hensall Economic Development Committee. ""Admission to events is free but participants are asked to bring a donation of toys or a non-perishable food item for the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Bushel Basket of Huron County Bounty raffle tickets will be available at the Tree - Lighting Festivities with the draw being made on Dec. 11. Proceeds go to the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Organizations have get-together Town and Country Homemakers Seaforth and Area Dining Out held another enjoyable meal and happy get-together .at Seaforth and District Community Centre on Nov. 16. After a super meal catered to by Marjorie Anderson and helpers, we heard a very informative presentation by Kim McIntyre of the Canadian Hearing Society. She discussed common hearing problems of seniors and gave practical solutions. A reminder of the December Dinner and Christmas Celebration on Thursday, Dec. 21. Good eggs can hatch or go bad The Seaforth Women's Institute held its Nov. 14 meeting at the home of Gladys Doig. President Olive Papple welcomed everybody. Roll call was answered by 13 members. Minutes of the last meeting were given by Helen MacKenzie. Helen gave the treasurer's report. Rally reports were given by Marjorie Rock and Gladys Doig. Convention report was given by Olive Papple. Olive also gave a report on the district board meeting. Donations were given to the Santa Claus Parade and the Christmas Bureau. We will Seaforth Legion by' Barbara Scott Stag euchre There is a stag euchre tonight (Wed. Nov. 29). Play starts at 8 pm. Tickets fo'r the New Year's Dance are now on sale at the branch. There arc a limited number of tickets on sale. Monday cribbage has started and everyone is welcome to play. This starts at 8 pm. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Women's Institute have the booth at the fall fair in Oct. 1996. The meeting was turned over to Marion Gordon and Betty Hulley. Marion gave the motto; 'You can't go on being a good egg. Marg Smale gave the report on Amalgamation - What happens to the Auxiliary - chaired by Andrea Porter with a panel consisting of CEO and Auxiliary members. Marilyn MacKenzie gave the presentation, 'Working smarter and a different look at time management.' Treasurer and President's presentation was given by Audrey Lemmon. The ladies were thanked for their interesting reports.
