Fun run comes to area
Lace up your shoes and
stretch your legs. It is time to
prepare for the Big V Festival
City Fun Run being held in
Stratford on Sunday, Oct. 15.
This road race, sponsored by
The Lung Association, Huron -
Penh Counties, provides an
opportunity for all runners,
young and old to come out,
have some fun, be eligible to
win prizes and take on a
personal challenge.
The Festival City Fun Run
consists of two races, a 1 mile
event starting at 9:00 a.m. and
a 5 km run beginning at 9:30
a.m. To register, racers may
phone 519-271-7500 and sign
up using VISA or Mastercard;
or register the day of the event
at the Kiwanis Community
Centre, Lakeside Drive,
Stratford at least one half hour
prior to start time. All those
whose entries are received
before Oct. 1 will receive a
Festival City Fun Run t -shirt
plus benefit from paying only
$18 a race as opposed to $20
the day of the event.
In both the 1 mile and 5 km
runs, there will be six age
divisions formen and women:
14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-
39, 40-49, 50 & over. Awards
will be given to the top three
finishers in each category, plus
the top three overall winners.

Results Systems of London.
Dolphins in
first place

The Dolphins moved into
first place in the St. James
Bowling League when they
blanked the Broncos 7-0 on
Monday, Sept. 18, at Starlight
Lanes.
Leading the Dolphins were
George Love with 261, 299-
732, and Mandy Haase with
241, 265-666. Top scores for
the Broncos were bowled by
Jack . Ryan with 256-571 and
Lavem Godkin with 214-550.
The Bears hold second place
after their 5-2 victory over the
49ers. Karen Hoegy paced the
Bears with 201, 277-629, Don
Nolan 286-600 and Connie
Marion 208-522. Mark
Higenell led the 49ers with
222, 257-676.
The Lions are in third place
following a 5-2 win over the
Cowboys. High bowlers for the
Lions were Rob Simpson 285-
623, and Kevin Johnston 237-
582. Janice Morris with 271-
562 and Johanna Goodman
216-521 were the leaders for
the Cowboys.

Lawn bowlers
hold banquet
The annual meeting of the
Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club
was held at the clubhouse Sept.
19. President Thelma Coombs
chaired the meeting and the
minutes were recorded by
acting -secretary Betty Tilley.
Wednesday will be Seaforth's
last tournament of the season, a
men's pairs commencing at
10:30 a.m.
Sunday afternoon saw seven
greens in play under sunny
skies when members of the
Seaforth Fire Department and
their spouses took to the greens
in a mini -tournament.
Observers watching saw good
potential for future bowlers.
Winners of the tournament
were Barb Staples, for the
ladies, and Jim Finlayson, for
the men. Bowling was followed
by a corn roast.
Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
will be the District Fall
Banquet at the Seaforth Legion,
followed by a program with
numbers from each club in the
District. This promises to be an
interesting evening.
Bowling in Locknow mixed
mks on Sunday, Fred and
Betty Tilley placed second.
Preseason begins
Pre -season exhibition play
gets underway Saturday night
for Seaforth and District Minor
Hockey Association teams.
Two tilts are scheduled, the
Seaforth atoms host Lambeth
to an exhibition at the local
arena at 6 p.m., followed by
the peewees who host Stephen
Township at 7:15 p.m.
The . regular season for all
divisions begins the second
weekend of October.
The house league began play
last weekend.
Seaforth minor hockey
President Graham Nesbiu says
registration is down slightly so
far this year, now standing at
202 from last season's 215
registrations, mainly because
many girls who played in the
local association last year have
registered with a new girls'
team based in Bayfield.
National Hockey
League veteran Dave
McLlwain may soon be
packing his suitcase
again.
The much -travelled
Seaforth native has not
been protected by his
most recent team, the
Ottawa Senators, and is
eligible for next Mon-
day's NHL waiver
draft.
Any other interested
team could then claim
him.
McLlwain, 28, has
scored 97 goals and
198 points as a
centreman/rightwinger
for six NHL teams
over eight seasons -
Ottawa, Toronto, New
York Islanders, Buf-
falo, Winnipeg and
Pittsburg.
He was waded four
times in 1991-92.
This season's local minor
hockey Executive is made up

Boyd hot
Seaforth's Boyd Devereaux
hasn't wasted any time lighting
lamps in his rookie season of
junior A hockey.
The 17 -year-old rookie with
the . Kitchener Rangers of the
Ontario Hockey League scored
the first goal of the Rangers'
regular season. He -also scored
the winning goal in Kitchener's
first win.
Top hoops
A pair of area teenagers
played a leading roll as the St.
Michael Warriors won a
Huron -Perth Conference golf
championship at St. Marys
Friday.
Charles Robertson of the
Staffa-area fired a 79 and Chris
Marion of Seaforth shot an 81
for the Warriors as their four -
man squad finished seven
strokes ahead of Listowel, in
wet and cold conditions.
It was the second -straight
year the Warriors have won the
H -P title.
St. Michael placed third in
the girls' competition, with Jen
Marion of Seaforth shooting a
58 for nine holes.
