LORI PERRIE ... bronze medal The 19 -year-old Brussels -area athlete goes to Seaforth District High School and was officially ranked seventh in the national competition at Abbotsford the weekend before last. She was also ranked 17th in the shot put but finished seventh. Perrie, who remained true to form by saving her best throw until last at the in the discus competition; twice destroyed her personal best that day. Her bronze -medal toss went 44.86 m and a qualifying throw also sailed more than 43 m. Her best -ever throw prior to the event was 41.04 m. Where the extra adrenalin, or whatever, came from at the national championships remains a mystery, Perrie says, adding she 'ven more surprised by her diw.inces because her coach could not afford to accompany her on the trip. John Allen of the London - Western Track and Field Club is her coach, considered one of best in the country in the dis- cus and shot. Perrie says her throw of 11.41 m in the junior women's shot put was also a personal best, and that she usually throws "in the high 10s." She wasn't keen on the way organizers structured the latter event in B.C. and says it "made her mad", so this might account for the extra oomph in. her put. This is Perrie's final year of junior competition. The top two finishers at the nationals earp berths to compete for Canada at various upcoming inter- national meets. The second place finisher in the discuss at . Abbottsford is from out west and may opt to compete at a Canada West meet, conflicting with a Canada - U.S. duel meet at Miami the same weekend, which may open up a spot for Lori in the junior women's discus competition there. HOMECOMING SLO-PITCH - A full contingent of 32 teams took part in the Seaforth Centenaires' Co-ed SIo-Pitch Toumament at Lions and Optimist Parks on the weekend, in conjunction with Seaforth Homecoming '95. Unfortunately two Stratford teams won championships in both "A" and "B" divisions - Thunder and Lightning in the "A", and Video Game Adventure in the "B". Most entries were family or neighborhood teams from Seaforth and area, including the Bad News Bears (Flanagans) who lost the "A" final Sunday. In the photo on top Sheri Huether of Brussels waits on a pitch for the Dali-Lamas, Paul McLlwain's squad which made it to the "A" semi-finals.
