The Huron Expositor, 1994-12-21, Page 13Bombers nuke Seaforth Centenaires
A sparse crowd saw the Seaforth
Centenaires throttled with ease 8.4
by the Belmont Bombers at the
Seaforth and District Community
Centres Friday night.
Suspect goaltending got them in a
hole early and forced them to play
catch-up, difficult to do if you keep
coughing up goals. The Bombers
took a 3-0 lead after the first
od, as starting goaltender Tim
Swan let in a couple of "softies"
along the ice, and then made it a
four -goal difference in the first
minute of the second period.
The Centenaires' Ontario Hockey
Association Junior "D"evelopment
League record is now 10-13-1. They
played again last night (Tuesday) at
Exeter but results weren't available
at press time. The Seaforth juniors
play at home twice next week

GETTING IN SOME HOCKEY - Dave McLlwain may be locked
out of the National Hockey League but he and some fellow
members of the National Hockey League Players' Association
played an exhibition game in Stratford last Tuesday.
Lock -out hurts economy
continued from page seven managers, that always helps the
long months of winter go quicker
and is always popular locally, to
help defray the costs of recent
improvements to their sonitch
in St. Columban. Needless to say it
hasn't exactly panned out the way
they planned.
The NHL lockout is also having a
major effect elsewhere. Experts
cstinial, cancellation of the
season.:. would cost provincial
treasuries an estimated $75 -million
in lower sales of sports lottery
tickets. Canadians, particularly men,
have been abandoning the tube in
droves, on average of from 20 to 50
per cent on a bad week, with all
kinds of major repercussions for
both television and advertisers. The
sale is hockey paraphernalia, such
as hats and sweaters, and cards is
also slow. Trent Ward and Mark
Robinet, who both deal in hockey
cards locally, say business is
sluggish at this usually booming
time of year. At Seaforth's recent
Midwestern Show and Sale, Ward
said sales of rookie cards, a
mainstay of the market, are
particularly slow because young
fans and consumers haven't seen
the new up-and-comers on the ice
yet, so don't really know who they
arc. The St. Columban Minor
Soccer Association has also been
hurt by the lockout. It was
sponsoring the year's local NHL
draft for would-be general

The practice of rotating goalies
has ended, says Seaforth general
manager Gregor Campbell, who
adds the club will now go with
Dave Nahrgang as its "main man"
between the pipes.
Swan was replaced by Seaforth
midget call-up Chad Lamont, who
was an emergency replacement half
an hour before game time for
Nahrgang who couldn't make it
back from Toronto in time, after
Belmont's fourth goal Friday. He
came into the lions den cold, and
