BY TIM CUMMING Expositor Editor Does Huron's long-term care advisory committee have to channel its recommendations through the District Health Council (DHC)? That question arose when the Huron -Perth body met in Seaforth on Thursday evening. "They say they don't have to channel their recommendations through the DHC but I think that's in error and should be rectified as quickly as possible," said Terry Fadelle, Chief Executive Officer of St. Marys Memorial Hospital. "The Long -Term Care office is to pro- vide planning support, not assume control of the process." Representatives of the Ministry of Health heard criticisms of com- munication breakdowns during Thursday's meeting of the Huron - Perth District Health Council (DHC) at Seaforth Community Hospital. Jeff Wilbee, Chair of the DHC, asked if there should be some dis- cussion at senior levels to improve communication. "Perhaps a meeting with the director will get some of these things straightened out fairly soon." There seemed to be some con- fusion within the Ministry as to the proper protocol for discussion of Tong -term care issues. There was also a criticism levelled by one member that a funding allocation for long-term care had been announced in the media before the long-term care committees were informed. The Huron -Perth District Health Council (DHC) went in camera (closed session) to discuss a person- nel matter, as the DHC is seeking to hire an Executive Director. The DHC is negotiating with a candidate and would like to have the person in place by the end of January, said Jeff Wilbee, Chair. The DHC is seeking an Executive Director. 0 m McCALLUM AUTOMOTIVE RR#4 11116 WAI,TON, ONT.
