Town retains food booth Seaforth Council decided to give the food booth at Optimist Park another shot at finishing in the black next summer at its regular meeting last Tuesday. The booth lost almost $1,000 last year, most of that due to wages, so council confirmed Recreation Director Marty Bedard's plan to shut the booth down at 9 p.m. rather than 11 p.m. next summer. "I feel confident we can make a small profit," the recreation director's report states. "We can increase the food prices, bring in hot food to cook in a microwave and close the booth earlier in the evening. The booth was open until all ball was finished and the late games were not attracting many fans." Coun. William Teall asked how the town got in the food booth business in the first place, and wondered whether the precedent might come back to haunt council. Clerk -Treasurer Jim Crocker noted Seaforth owns the land on which the park is situated and the town took the booth over last year when the Optimist Club was having difficulty staffing it with volunteers, but agreed council might have to re -think the arrangement. "We are not in business to lose money," he said. Council also approved the expenditure of $500 in next year's budget for some registration software for Recreation Director Bedard. At November's regular meeting it had nixed a similar system for $8,907, that required more juice than Bedard's existing computers could put out, and asked the rec director to shop around for other local alternatives, and firm up his funding from the groups that would benefit. Bedard reported that Rick Billson at the Computer Planning Centre will make a similar system, and he will ask minor hockey, ball and soccer to chip in S500 each, to help defray the total cost of $2,000, S6,907 less than the original proposal which might have been defrayed by a provincial government grant. The three minor sports groups all currently use the recreation department's computers for registrations. Towns to mee At `its regular meeting las!'`' Wednesday,.
