Barney makes Christmas merry
by Stephanie Bach
It was Christmas eve and Kelly'
M, Kelly G, Laura, Kailley, Brooke
and Melanie were really starting to
hate Christmas. "These carols are
really starting to get stupid,"
Brooke says. "Yea! I'm really
beginning to not believe in Santa
Claus," Laura said. Around the
corner Barney heard ghat the girls.
were saying. He went up to them
and said "Don't hate Christmas. It's
probably the best time you could
have!" The girls • thought about it.
"but we still hate Christmas," said
Kelly G. "But why do you hate
Christmas?" asked Barney. "We're
starting to hate the carols and we
have to spend all our money on
stamps, cards and presents,"
answered Brooke speaking for all of
them.„ If you hate Christmas Ill
just have to change into a stuffed
dinosaur.” Before they could say
anything Barney changed into a
stuffed anitnal. "Now what are we
going to do?" asked Kelly M.
"Well, I guess I can stand Christ-
mas carols" said Brooke. "It doesn't
matter if we spend all our moony
on Christmas cards and presents.
We might even have fun earning
the money." Melanie said. With a
flash of a light Barney was back.
"Now that's the spirit, girls,"
Bamey said. "Let's sing some
carols," said Brooke. Everybody
Laughed! They had a merry Christ-
mas after all!

Adam learns meaning of Christmas
By Brandi Williamson
One day a boy named Adam
wanted to know how Santa got
down the Chimney and what was
the meaning of Christmas. On
Christmas Eve he said to his mother
"Can I stay up to see Santa?"
His mother replied with a simple
"yes". Adam was so happy he said
what Fed Flintstone always says
"Yabba-Dabba Doo!"
On that Christmas Eve Adam was
waiting for Santa, then Wompl
Something fell down the chimney
"Santa" Adam yelled "Shhh! Be
quiet! You don't want to wake up
you parents, do you ?" Santa very
quietly said. "No" whispered Adam
"How do you get down and up the
chimney?" asked Adam. "Magic"
said Santa. "What is the meaning of
Christmas?" asked Adam. "Well it
all started with Jesus our Lord and
the three wise men gave him gifts
of gold", Santa said. "So that's why
1 give presents to good boys and
girls all over the world."
Iceland Christmas means giving
The Iceland Christmas Eve is
the most celebrated day of the
Christmas season and on this
night. everyone is dressed up for
the "Holy Night". Christmas starts
at six o'clock on Christmas Eve -
some families go to a Church
service, others start their main
Christmas meal at this time.
For the first time, the children
are allowed to see the decorated
Christmas tree and like children in
many other countries, they have
been counting the days from one
Christmas to another.
The Christmas dinner
traditionally starts with rice
pudding, in which an almond has
been hidden, and the one who is
lucky enough to find it, receives a
marzipan or chocolate Santa
Claus.
Smoked leg of lamb or
ptarmigans are common as the
main course on Christmas Eve,
with a great variety of side dishes.
Christmas ale and sumptuous
desserts make this the one night of
the year when dieters break their
vows and join with abandon in the
spirit of Christmas.
After dinner, the family joins
hands around the Christmas tree
and sings Christmas songs. The
young sometimes seem to sing
with accelerated tempo, for
immediately following this,
Christmas presents are handed out.
Father sits by the Christmas tree
passing out the parcels one by
one, everyone waiting for each to
be opened so as to admire all the
gifts exchanged on this night.
This is a night of joy and smiles
and sometimes a few tears for the
ones who are not present. The
Icelanders always seem to go
overboard in giving at Christmas
time, often hurting the purse for
months after it is all over, but it
feels awfully good inside.
Christmas in Iceland lasts for 13
days. On the eve of the 13th day,
there is the last celebration, when
the Christmas decorations and the
tree are taken down.
For the young ones - it is the
day to start looking forward to the
next Christmas.
My Christmas story
by Trevor Coombs
Christmas is a time where we get
together at grandma's house and
rip, open our presents and have
dinner and play with our toys.
It's a lot of fun. My mons and
dad talk and cat cake and drink
coffee and pop and cat cookies. My
cousins and I play some games.
Dale and I play checkers, he wins
most of the trine I win one game.
He's good i want to know his
secret.
1 Love my family.
"So that is why we give presents
at Christmas to all our friends and
relatives and nice people". Adam
said very happily. "Merry Christ-
mas Santa!" "Merry Christmas
Adam."
Now Adam knows the meaning of
Christmas is the birth of our Lord.
The next morning Adam found lots
of presents under the tree.
