Lily names her Christmas wish
by Melanie Culbert
Once there was a girl named Lily.
She was very nice and everyone
like her. War hit her country about
two months before Christmas. All
the stores were ruined and the
houses were demolished so every-
one was forced to live in shelters.
None of the children went to
school. They couldn't. It was not
safe in the streets. Everyone wished
for peace, but not like Lily. Lily
had a pen pal who lived in Canada.
Her name was Katherine. Lily
wrote and told Katherine what was
going on. She also said that all she
wanted for Christmas is peace.
Katherine also wanted something
special, she wanted her friend to
live!
War—kept getting worse, Christ-
mas kept getting closer. It looked
like Lily's wish would never come.
But Katherine and her family saved
the day! They invited Lily's family
into their home for Christmas. Lily
said they didn't have a Visa or
enough money to get there.
Katherine told her that they don't
