JOINING IN SONG - The Blyth Festival Singers are preparing for a Christmas Celebration on Sunday,
Dec. 11 at Wesley -Willis United Church in Clinton. The 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. performances will feature
seasonal music including Bach's Christmas Oratorio. Here (from right) are Ken deBoer, of Lucknow; Paul
Zurbrigg of Goderich; George Ribey of Seaforth; Paul Howe of Goderich and Bill Famell of Wingham
run through the score. The Blyth Festival Singers include more than 40 members.
Open house for new staff
November was a very special
month at Maplewood Manor. An
Open House was held to welcome
Susan Wheatley as the new Admin-
istrator of Maplewood and Karen
MacDonald as Director of Activ-
ides. We wish both of them success
in their new positions.
Students of Mrs. Hoelscher's Gr.
6-7 class have begun making week-
ly visits with residents playing
games of shuffleboard, crokinole
and euchre.
A visit from the Snowdon Empor-
ium of Burlington allowed residents
to finish their winter clothes shop -
in
p A special Remembrance Day
Service, which was held at
Maplewood by members of the
Seaforth Legion, was greatly
appreciated by everyone.
Residents had an outing to the
Northside United Church luncheon
_where they enjoyed a delicious
meal and met many of their friends.'
Musical entertainment for the
month was provided by Max
Ducharme and the Townliners as
well as sing -a -longs with Carol
(Maplewood
Manor
Carter and Marion Rose.
Maplewood craft ladies enjoyed
an afternoon at the home of Betty
Harris where they saw her beautiful
handmade Christmas village.
A trip to the Santa Claus parade
and visits from Harmony Hi-Lites,
the Salvation Army and carollers of
the St. James and St. Columban
Youth Group have certainly got
everyone in the Christmas spirit.
Maplewood Manor's Bazaar and
Tea was held Dec. 3. A big thank
you to those who supported us and
to all who donated baking and
crafts and a helpful hand. Every-
thing was greatly appreciated.
We are pleased to announce that
We will be displaying seasonal
landscapes by local artist, Alfie
Dale. Feel free to drop in and view
this exhibit of internationally recog-
nized talent.
Christmas dinner enjoyed
The Seaforth Happy Citizen's
club held their annual Christmas
dinner at the Legion on Thursday,
Dec. 1 at 12 noon. The Legion
Auxiliary ladies provided the club
by serving a bounteous Turkey
dinner. The Seaforth line dancers
group entertained the club before
dinner with several line dancing
numbers which was enjoyed by all.
Bea Stoll asked the grace before we
partook of the delicious dinner,
After dinner Betty Hulley thanked
the Auxiliary ladies for their sump-
tuous dinner. A shot meeting fol-
lowed. Gertie Driscoll gave two
very humorous readings which
brought forth many chuckles.
Pauline Bennett also gave a humor-
ous domestic reading. We then had
a sing -a -long of Christmas Carols
led with Mildred Traviss accom-
panying on the piano. There was a
good turn out and Euchre followed
with prizes bring won as follows.

Loons take over first
BY GEORGE LOVE
The Loons moved into first
place in the St. James Bowling
League when they nipped the

at Starlight Lanes. Top bowlers
for the Loons were Johanna
Goodman 215,254-659 and Bob
Dinsmore 209-594. For the
Emus, it was Gord Murray with
243-567, and Mark Higenell
210-567.
The Partridges dropped out of
first place when they were
edged 5-2 by the Doves. Jack
Ryan with 259-640 and Don
Nolan 205-602 were high for
the Doves. Leading the Par-
tridges wcrc Connie Marion

215-542.
The Jays also fell out of first
place tic, when they wcrc

Buds in first place
in Thursday league
The Thursday . Nighters let
them roll this past Dec. 1.
Though not a game was 'best of
the year', one game came close
to worst. Murray's Marauders,
in one match, took on the
Wannabees. Murray's got the
points for winning game one,
but their opponents took two's
and three's. Brian Barry (201)
bowled well and Stan Mailloux
(199) and Tracy Klaver (202)
too. But it was Steve Steep's
(221,223-649) hot handed and
Sandra Klaver's (225-568) per-
sonal bests which saw the
Wannabees through. Murray
Bennewies (269,267-779) sought
to lead his team in knocking
pins out. While Deb Bedard
(201) and Todd Doig (240,206-
635) did what they could to help
out.
Another match saw the Falling
Pins take five points from the
Boozin' Brewers Doug Procter
(217-619), Ralph Johnston (234-
599) and Dianna Steep (226-
546) were the Falling Pins big
boors.
The Boozin Brewers weren't
asleep, take Trevor Price (212)
for one. And Doug Lconhardt
(266,281-775) who said, 'If we
don't win, at least we'll have
some fun."
The final match, Wolverines
and Buds, was another 5-2 split.
But just eleven points difference
for total pins, the Wolverines
taking it. Lead-off man John
Coleman (223); and anchor
Gary Bedard (317-695) were
high rollers for the Buds.
Connie Trotter (197) and Mike
Thomson (240-647) showed the
Wolverines weren't duds. As
Thursday night approaches, we
envision strike -ball landings. But
that will be another tale, for
now here are the weekly stand-
ings: The Buds - 42; Wannabees
- 41; Boozin' Brewers - 35;
Murray's Marauders - 32; Wol-
verines - 31; Falling Pins - 29.
