The St. Columban 4-H Club 'The
Bready Bunch' held its third meet-
ing in the St. Columban Church
hall. Club members enjoyed making
pumpkin bread, which got them into
the Halloween spirit. The 4-H
group's leaders told members to
bring samples of recipes and let
other members taste them. They

had Crescent Rolls and Banana
Bread which were delicious. They
filled in comment pages and read
through our books. When the pump-
kin bread was baked, they cut it up
and served it to the other 4-H
Clubs.
The next meeting is Thursday,
Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in the St.
Columban Church Hall.

The 4-H 'Woodworking Club'
meeting was opened with the 4-H
pledge by the president, Julianne
Ryan. The secretaries from each
group read their minutes of the last
meeting which were adopted as
read.
Club members pickedtheirtitle
pages which have to be colored for
the next meeting. Sharon read from
meeting three and talked about it.
The club split into groups of two
and practised cutting wood. When
finished, they sanded apples and
hearts cut out the week before.
Before they knew it the meeting
was over. Darcy Flanagan motioned
to close the meeting and Debbie
Van Bakel seconded it. The presi-
dent ended the meeting with the 4-
H Motto.

Congratulations to Jeff Burchill,
Sarnia (grandson of Mrs. Jack
Burchill) qualified to run in Boston
Marathon in February by running
Chicago- Marathon -of 226 miles this
weekend in three hours or less. His
time was 2 hrs. 54 mins! Good
going, Jeff - we're all proud of
you!
Heartfelt sympathy is extended to
Fran and Terry Craig and family,
Seaforth, on the death of Fran's
mother, Kathleen Dewan, London.

Hensall women visit for bingo
Activities at Queensway Nursing
Home kicked off last week with the
regular Fun and Fitness and trivia
quiz. The women's group from the
Hensall United Church visited last
Monday for afternoon bingo.
Early Tuesday morning started
with Breakfast Club. Residents
gathered to enjoy a hearty meal of
sausages, eggs, home fry potatoes,
juice, toast and coffee.
Later on Tuesday afternoon, Dave
Austin from the Exeter Pentecostal
Church performed the weekly
J
ueensway
church service. Dave brought his
guitar for musical accompaniment.
Thursday evening was the Octo-
ber birthday party. The entertainers
included Alyssa Darling and Julie
Godbolt singing a variety of songs
while George Godbolt provided
accompaniment on the piano. Birth-
day celebrants were Pearl Eyre,
Carl Isaac and Homer Taylor. The
birthday party quickly become a
Halloween bash as many residents
dawned costumes from all walks of
life to help celebrate the Halloween
season.

Legion observes Remembrance
Hensall Legion Branch 468 is
holding its Remembrance Day
Service, November 6, at the Hensall
United Church. Following a parade
and service at the cenotaph, coffee,
chocolate milk and doughnuts will
be served at the Legion by the
Ladies' Auxiliary.
Don't forget about Legion dues,
be an early bird and pay your
Legion dues by Nov. 30.
November 11, the Annual
Remembrance Day Banquet is
being held at the Hensall Arena.

members or at the Legion.

in the church parlour.
Boxes have been placed in the
church to receive -donations to
Friendship House.
The Fnendship Circle will meet
Nov. 7. They will be packing bales
of clothing and having a pot luck
lunch at the meeting.
The next prayer hour will be held
at Grand Bend United Church Nov.
4 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

services at the Queensway Nursing
Home Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 3, Legion
members of Br. 468 and the Cadet
Corps will be, selling poppies door
to door. The poppy boxes have
already been placed in several
businesses in Hensall and Zurich.
Let's not forget the symbol of the
bright red poppy.

The October pot luck supper and
social of the Seaforth Lawn
Bowling Club was held at the
Orange Hall Tuesday evening Oct.
25 at 6 p.m.
Twenty eight were present and
prizes for cards were - Ladies' high
- Velma Preszcator; Men's High -
Eileen Adamson (played as a man);
Ladies' lone hands - Olive Papple;
Men's lone hands - Doug Foreman;
Ladies' low - Edith McMillan;
Men's low - Oliver Pryce. -

welcomed all present and the next
euchre will beat the Orange hall on
Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. Hostess will be
Viola Taylor, Isabelle Hunt and
Dorothy McCluskie. Each member
was asked to bring one' or two
friends with them and a sandwich
for lunch.
Sorry to hear Sam McClure had
been in hospital but glad to hear he
was home again. Hostess for the
October Social were Grace
Broadfoot, Velma Preszcator and
Jan Pinder.

Nursing Home
Events enjoyed
Halloween ' celebrations were
greatly enjoyed at Seaforth manor
Nursing Home last week. Gladys
Van Egmond and her band enter-
tained for a lively dance and cos-
tume party. Several special guests
auended including Dracula and
Snow White. Even Elvis arrived to
dance to the strains of 'Love Me
Tender'. Daisy and Donald Duck
were host and hostess for the after-
noon.. One of the seven dwarfs
attended as well as Marilyn Monroe
and Little Red Riding Hood. All
residents got into the spirit as they
sported various disguises for the
afternoon. Special thanks go to all
the volunteers and staff who
assisted for this event and to the
residents for being such good
sports. Decorated cup -cakes and
apple cider were enjoyed following
the dance. Birthday congratulations
went out to seven residents for
October. A lovely colour bus tour
was enjoyed as well last week. Bill
Gibson entertained for a lively sing -
along which everyone enjoyed. Rev.
Sloan conducted a lovely commu-
nion service. Thanks to the volun-
teers from First Presbyterian Church
r for assisting. We hope all had a
safe and Happy Halloween. We are
looking forward to the Remem-
brance service with the Seaforth
Legion members on Thursday, Nov.
10 at 2 p.m.
