The Huron Expositor, 1994-11-02, Page 3Close-up Tuckersmith candidates vie Larry McGrath Lan -y McGrath has spent the past six years as a councillor in Tuckersmith but is now one of three candidates vying for the Deputy -Reeve's position. He is a lifelong resident of the township, now a self-employed plumber, and he and his wife Dianne have three children: Andrea, Laura and Greg. "I want to voice the opinions of the urban and rural taxpayers," says Mr. McGrath, 38, who describes himself as "an approachable candidate who is willing to listen." "As a self-employed businessman I want to ensure that hard-earned tax dollars are spent wisely and the needs of the taxpayers are met, "he adds. The McGraths live on Victoria St. in Egmondville and Larry has served on both the Seaforth and District Arena Board and the Seaforth and Area Fire Board. Bob Broadfoot Incumbent Bob Broadfoot wants to continue to provide a strong voice for agriculture as Deputy - Reeve on Tuckersmith council. He says he takes pride in serving the township, and prefers a business approach to council work. Mr. Broadfoot, 57, spent five years as a councillor before winning the Deputy -Reeve's post in Tuckersmith five years ago. He farms at RR 1 Brucefield and his wife, Donna, works at Huronview. They have three children. Mr. Broadfoot is on the steering committee of the Central Huron Mobility Service, a supporter of the Brucefield United Church and was President of the Seaforth Agricultural Society from 1983-84. Rob McLeod Incumbent Rob McLeod wants to continue learning and serving in Tuckersmith as a councillor, to ensure tax dollars are equally split between urban and rural areas. The 29 -year-old route salesman for Hostess who lives on Victoria St. in Vanastra is separated and has two children: Miranda and William. He is on the township's police committee and is a Seaforth and District Community Centre board member. He was named to Tuckersmith Council when Coun. Douglas Smith resigned. Frederick Mulder Frederick Mulder is a 43 -year-old farmer from RR 1 Brucefield who wants to find out what it is like on the other side of the political fence. That is why he is one of five candi- dates campaigning for three avail- able seats on Tuckersmith council. "It's easy to criticize and a lot harder to make a decision that everyone likes," he notes. Mr. Mulder has no previous pol- itical experience but he has cam- paigned for the local Cancer Society in the past. His wife's name is Alice and they have four daughters: Laura, Rita, Jan and Lucia. He wants to make sure there are no tax increases in the township. William J. (Bill) DeJong William J. (Bill) DeJong is another in the running for Deputy - Reeve in Tuckersmith. He is currently a councilor who believes capital projects should be spread evenly between urban and rural areas. "Although new industry is hard to attract and it becomes frustrating we must keep trying," says the 54 - year -old farrow -to -finish hog farmer who lives at RR 1 Brucefield. "We must strive to maintain our identity and our rights." Mr. DeJong says some important issues at hand are the attempted re- structuring of the Tuckersmith Municipal Telephone system and the CHuMs mobility bus. He was vice chairman of the Clinton Monster Bingo Committee for three years and has been a member of the Hensall Fire Board and involved with Huron County Farm safety, as well as a municipal drainage inspector. From 1979 to 1988 he was a director of the Hensall District Co-op, and its president in 1985. Mr. DeJong's wife is Doreen and they have two grown children: Colleen and Karen. •for more pro- files of council candidates see page nine. THIS NOV. 14 EXERCISE YouZ RIGHTS VOTE! Vock says he has a rural background which he considers an asset He has lived in Huron County since 1982 and moved to the Seaforth area in 1984.
