Staff changes at Seaforth PUC
The following is written by Amy
Horne, who is leaving the Seaforth
PUC rater working for 28 years in
as Secretary -Treasurer.
I fust worked for the PUC in
1948. I started work in May that
year. I had just completed a com-
mercial course at the Chalon
School of Commerce (no longer in
existence). I worked until Decem-
ber, 1949. Ross Thuell was . the
Manager and later, Jim Mason.
I was married and moved to Lon-
don. We came back to this area in
the 50's and when the ad appeared
in the Huron Expositor in June of
1966 for a Secretary -Treasurer, I
decided to apply since our youngest
of three children was starting school
that year and we were then living in
Seaforth. I truly believed I didn't
have a chance of getting the posi-
tion but the Commission reviewed
the applications on a Tuesday night,
phoned me and said the job was
mine and I was to stars Thursday,
June 9, 1966. At the time I thought
I would work until our children
were through school but I worked
far beyond that.
Gus Bousscy was the Manager
then. Everything had changed dras-
tically as to the system of office
work involved since 1949 but I still
did remember what a KWH was.
Mary Dalrymple was the other
office employee and taught me
when I started. In late 1967 Walter
Scott became Manager until 1976
when the present Manager, Tom
Phillips, was appointed.
By the way, Tom started June 14,
1966 and worked his way up to his
present position. Marian Clark, who
has been part-time in the office
since 1981 will be taking my posi-
tion after July 29. 1 will certainly
everyone at work who have
a great group to work with
and also meeting all the people who
come into the office to pay their
bills, but 1 am looking forward to
having more time for myself and
my family.

Amy Horne; who has worked as
Secretary -Treasurer for the Seaforth
PUC, will be leaving at the end of
July. In an interview with the
Huron Expositor, she recalls a few
experiences at the PUC over the
years.
When Tom Phillips became man-
ager in 1976 after working for years
in the back shop Amy Horne was
concerned she would have to
address him differently.
"Do I have to call you Mr.
Philips?" Amy asked Tom after his
appointment to t UC Manager.
"Lord, no," replied Tom.
Amy worked with only three
different managers in 28 years with
the PUC. And there wasn't a big
turnover with employees either.
Jack Muir recently retired after 25
years with the PUC and the current
employees have been there for
many years. "They're pretty loyal
employees."
Any strange experiences over the
years?
"One time there was a customer
whose account was in arrears. He
hadn't paid his bill for a while.
They were doing construction on
his street and the water was shut
off. He came running in to pay the
bill because he thought we cut off
his water."
"Everyday is a different day when
you're dealing with the public. It's
certainly not a boring job," said
Amy, who has no set plans for

Marian Clark, who has been
general clerk with the PUC for over
12 years will take over Amy's
position as Secretary -Treasurer of
the Seaforth PUC.
Danica McNichol of Seaforth will
be replacing Marion. She's looking
forward to her new position. "It's
going to be an interesting experi-
ence."
Danica lives in Seaforth with her
husband, Jim, and three boys. She
has worked in Seaforth in the past
at both Sills Hardware and Anna's
Dress Shoppe. After returning to
school, Danica worked at Culligan's
for the last three and a half years.
"It's great to be back in town,"
said Danica, who said she enjoys
