The Huron Expositor, 1994-06-22, Page 5News and Views Have you ever heard of Seaforth & what have you heard about it? • Asked recently in downtown Toronto Jane Bunnett, International Jazz Musician: "I have heard of it. I've heard of it but I've only just heard of it." kviL George Lagogianes, Videographer, CITY-TV/Much Music: "Yes I have. There was this guy I unfortunately used to live with while I was at school at Ryerson. And he would continually babble about the fact there was a Seaforth connection within the school. I think he was just crazy though." Mike Hansen, Visual Artist and Jazz Disc Jockey at CKLN-FM: "I have absolutely no idea where Seaforth is. I gather it can't be by a sea because there isn't one here." Exan Au Young, Script Assistant, Much Music: "Seaforth...I think of a cheap men's aftershave. No, sorry that's Sea Breeze." `Curly' - Street Musician, Yonge and Dundas: "No, I've never heard of Seaforth. But there used to be the Seaforth Highlanders." Laurie Brown, Arts Journalist, CBC Prime Time News: "Well I know it's nice to live in lovely Lambeth. What is it about Seaforth? 1 know how to spell it - S -e -a -f -o -r -t -h. I know that it's in Ontario. And I know that I've driven by it. It is not by the sea." Steve Anthony, Vee -Jay, Much Music: "I have heard of it because I have a damsel in every port of call in this country and that's the only reason." photos by David Scott Smaller council means change to one and one half hour meetings again so more time.can be spent on planning matters. Seaforth Town Council's Finance and General Government Commit- tee recently discussed how they would operate in the future with a reduction in the size of Council. It was suggested that a Committee of the Whole meeting should take the place of two separate Standing Committee meetings. Administrator Crocker stated the advantage of a Committee of the Whole meeting is that everyone understands all of the issues facing the Town, however, there is a danger the Committee Meeting will become a Council meeting, and the regular Council meeting will place Council in a position where they are simply 'rubber stamping' business dis- cussed at the committee meeting. Coun. Bill Teall suggested Com- mittee Chairs take a more active role in their committees by present- ing the committee reports to Coun- cil, rather than having staff read the reports, and by answering questions regarding the business of the com- mittees.
