Bantams were WOAA champs The Seaforth Bantams have wrapped up another successful season finishing as WOAA "CC" champions and consolation winners of a "BB" -"DD" bantam tourna- ment in Hanover. Earlier the Bantams were put out by Mitchell for a spot in the all - Ontario playoffs. Seaforth lost the third game of a best two -out -of - three series against Mitchell. Seaforth then went back into the WOAA playoffs and beat Clinton in three games. The Bantams faced Goderich in the finals and swept them two games straight with scores of 5-4 and 8-6, With the victory over Goderich, the Seaforth Bantams are the WOAA "CC" champions for the 1993-94 season. The Bantams then travelled to Hanover on March 25 for a "BB" - "DD" tournament where they met teams above, below and at the same level of play. Seaforth's first match was against Arthur. The game ended in a 3-3 tie with goals by Gord Bjerg, Mark VanDooren and Brandon Nash. Assisting on the second goal was Dave McLlwain of Seaforth approaches the 40 -point mark with the Ottawa Senators as the 1993-94 regular NHL season winds down. Wed. Mar. 30 Dave assisted on the Senators' sixth goal in a 6-4 win in Ottawa against the Quebec Nordiques. 'Mac' also served a penalty in the third period for holding. Fri. April 1 McLlwain assisted on Ottawa's second goal in a 2-2 road game tie with the Florida Panthers. Dave also served a hooking penalty in the first period. Totals Dave now has 15 goals and 24 assists in 60 games with the Ottawa Senators for a total of 39 points. Jered Munro. On Sat., Mar. 26, the Bantams headed back to Hanover to face a team from Beamsville. Beamsville took an early 3-0 lead after the first period and held on for a 6-3 win. Scoring for Seaforth was Brent Hulley, Jason Smith and Brandon Nash. Assisting on the second and third goals was Derek Smith, Steve Pearce, Shaun Anstett and Jeremy McNichol. Seaforth played two more games Sunday in the Hanover tournament. Seaforth trampled Forest 9-0 in the first game. Mark VanDooren led the scoring with a hat trick and two assists. Derek Smith and Gord Bjerg each had two goals and one assist. Dillon Wyck and Brandon Nash had one goal and two assists apiece. Patrick Gridzak had two assists and Jared Munro, Evan Eckert, Chris Marion and Jeremy McNichol each had one assist. In their final game the Seaforth Bantams faced Elms Logan and easily outscored their opponents. Seaforth led 3-1 after the fust period. They added an insurance goal in the second and there was no scoring in the third. The final was 4-1 and that earned the Bantams the consolation title. Scoring for Seaforth in the final game was Shaun Anstett and Brandon Nash with one goal apiece, and Derek Smith with two goals. "The coaches and parents would like to thank Ted Griffin and Rick Wood for helping with the coaching at the Hanover tournament, and thank the boys for a really good year," said Randy Gridzak, team manager. Coach of the Seaforth Bantams is Dave Akey and trainer is Doug Smith. Most of the plays, as pictured, were in front of the Goderich net.
