Fabric and lace create treasured keepsakes
With the traditional
wedding season soon upon us,
now is the time to start thinking
about shopping for the perfect
engagement, shower and
wedding gift.
Instead of going to a
department store, why not head
to your local craft or fabric store
and create that special wedding
keepsake?
You'll find that a
homemade gift is often more
meaningful, just as beautiful and
professional, yet inexpensive to
make.
Today, some of the
most popular shower and
engagement gifts are decorative
wedding videotape -box covers
and fabric -covered wedding
photo albums and guest books.
These gifts are easy to create
using a few simple materials.
• To make an attractive case to
hold a wedding video, you will
need a white plastic video tape
box, 10" x 13" of fabric such as
white or cream satin, a 9" x 12"
piece of quilt batting, and edge
trim such as lace or eyelet.
To decorate the front of
the box, you may wish to add
gold rings, pearls, ribbons and
flowers. If you are working with
satin, be sure to keep your
hands and your work area clean
and dry.
Begin assembling the
box by cutting the fabric 1"
larger than the open box.
Cut batting the same

Place the box directly

Splat! An over-
enthusiastic guest has just
christened your wedding dress in
his (or her) enthusiasm to toast
the happy couple.
And just before the
photographer starts shooting,
too.
A stain on your dress at
any time can be embarrassing,
but for a bride, it can be a
tragedy_
Wine stains, especially
red wine, are one of the trickiest
problems, say experts.
So what's the answer?
According to one dry cleaner,
your best bet is to leave the stain
alone and take the gown in for
dry cleaning as soon as possible.
A more immediate
solution is to gently blot the stain
with a white napkin or paper
towel. Don't rub, and don't
experiment with soda water or
any other handy -hint -type
remedy.
Also, get the gown to a
professional dry cleaner the next
day. Don't wait until you come
back from your honeymoon.
Unfortunately, there's
not always a happy ending.
Sometimes the best anyone can
hope for is to make the stain
Tess prominent.
Traditionally .. .
Put an English "Lucky
Sixpence" in your shoes. If your
mother has hers, borrow it, or
start a new tradition by saving it
for your daughter's (or daughter-
in-law's) wedding. Or have it
made into a lovely piece of
jewelry.
