Seaforth Petite squad makes Junior ringette team finals in advanced division wins championship When the Petite division of the Seaforth Tournament was bumped to a "AA" classification, the Seaforth Sizzlers knew it would be a great warm-up for the Prelimi- naries but never dreamed they would have such a successful week- end. Their first game was against London "AA" whom the Sizzlers had defeated earlier in the season. In the second game against Goderich, they couldn't pull another win out of the hat and lost their great fight 7-5. On Saturday, Seaforth lost a heartbreaker to St. Thomas, 5-4. Since Seaforth - TF finished in second place, they went on to play Goderich in the final game of the tournament. The unbeaten Goderich team defeated Seaforth by a score of 12-4. Mary Finlayson, Erin Van Dooren and Laura Devereaux shared goaltending duties, during the four games. Excellent playmaking was demon- strated by Nicole Binnedyk, Amanda Van Miltenburg and Randilynn Wilson. Goals were scored by Nicole Kistner, Laura Devereaux, Kayla Flanagan, Angela Eckert and Ma* Finlayson with assists to Monica Eckert, Kim Van Miltenburg and Erin Van Dooren. Sizzlers defeated Dorchester 8-3 to win - berth in final girst and only goal of the period. Marsha Denys tied the game for the Sizzlers, assisted by Jenny DelVecchio and Becky deVries and then Kim Devereaux popped a Jessica Finlayson pass rn for the lead. Becky deVries and Jenny DelVecchio assisted Marsha Denys in scoring Seaforth's fourth goal to end the period 4-1. Dorechester opened the scoring in the second but Jenny DelVecchio netted two, assisted by Marsha and Becky to increase the lead to four. The Seaforth Novice TF Ringette team travelled to St. Mary's on Sunday, February 13 for exhibition play. St. Marys started the scoring in the first minute of play but Seaforth managed to keep the game close. St. Marys had a 3-1 lead at the end of the half thanks to terrific goaltending by Laura Devereaux. Seaforth allowed two more goals in the second half but simply put, did not get any breaks around St. Marys net. Many good scoring opportunities were shattered by St. Mary's excellent goaltending and defense. However, the Seaforth girls never quit and battled on until the final buizer. Seaforth's lone goal was scored by Angela Eckert assisted by Kayla Flanagan. On Thursday, Feb. 17 the Juniors played Mitchell. When Mitchell scored two goals in the first minute and six seconds Seaforth knew they were in for a tougf game, but pulled out with the win 9-8. Goals by Kathy Devereaux (5); Jane Crowley (3); and Melissa Finlayson. Assists go to Kelly, Devereaux(2); Kathy Devereaux (2); Debbie Van den Hengel and Jane Crowley. On, Friday, Feb. 18 Seaforth went back to work against Stratford "C". Quick skating, great passing and picking up the ring was the factor in the 5-0 conquests. Outstanding playing by Julie Agar, with her first shut -out of the season. Goals by Kathy Devereaux (4) and Debbie Vanden Henget. Assists to Kelly Devereaux, Anna Mailloux and Debbie Vanden Hengel. At 6:30 p.m. in Hsnsall the team met Dorchester. Dorchester didn't make the 5-4 win easy. Goals go to Kathy Devereaux (3), Jane Crowley and Melissa Finlayson. Assists go to Jane Crowley (2), Kathy Lavis and Kelly Devereaux with three wins Seaforth went on to the Cham- pionship with a good feeling. On Sunday, Feb. 20 at 4:30 in the Clinton arena the team met its new rivals, Dorchester for the champion- ship. They wsnted to win, but Seaforth wanted the victory more, winning 6-3 in the Junior Cham- pionship. Goals by Kathy Devereaux (5) and Jane Crowley. Assists go to Jane Crowley (2), Kathy Devereaux, Amy Siemon and Krissy Holland. Excellent goal -tending by Julie Agar and great all-around playing by Jill Dolmage, Betty Little and Sherry Hugill. Congratulations to Jill Betties, Tracy Sills and Gwen Hugill who coached the Juniors to the win. Seaforth Deb ringette ties Huron -Perth 3-3 The Seaforth 'A' Deb club skated to a 3-3 tie with the Huron -Perth 'AA' Belle squad Saturday in exhi- bition ringette action. Lori Chessell, Kim Rau and Cheryl McLlwain scored for the Debs, while Amy Gowing, Danielle Miners and Jenny Uniac replied for the all-star team. The provincial `AA' team has Seaforth's Kelly Rau on the squad, and are comprised of players from Huron and Perth counties. Kelly Chessell had two assists for the Belles.
