HAROLD O. FREE
Harold O. Free born May 11,
1920 in Seaforth, Ontario, Canada.
Died February 12, 1994 in
Escondido, California at the age of
73.
Mr. Free attended Seaforth Colle-
giate High School. Married W
Dorothy Joan Greenwood of
Montreal, Quebec, Canada and just
recently celebrated 50 years of
marriage on September 18.
In 1939 Mr. Free went overseas
with the Royal Canadian Air Force
and later joining the Royal Air
Force in England. Flew from 1940-
1944 and was mentioned in a dis-
patch for Distinguished Service.
Returning to Canada and posted to
the Eastern Air Command on the
East Coast for two more years.
His trade was a meatcutter for 40
years.
An active member of the Lions
Club and Masonic Lodge Britannia
Lodge #170 A.F. & A.M., GRC. in
Seaforth Ontario, Canada. An active
fly fisherman who won several
awards and taught many students
the art of fly fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy
Joan Free of Escondido; a daughter,
Dianne Lynn Zemella of Santa
Barbara, and two grandchildren,
Michael and Joy Zemella.
Graveside services were held on
February 18 at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill
Cemetery followed by fellowship at
Community Reform Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests memorial donations to be
made to the Community Reform
Church Building Fund, 777 West
Felicita Avenue, Escondido.

Loretta Viola Bennewies, 56, of
Seaforth, died Saturday, February
19 at the Seaforth Community
Hospital.
Born in Biddulph Township,
January 7, 1938, she was a daughter
of the late William Brodhagen and
the former Jean Gray.
Surviving are her husband Ralph
Bennewies; children, Sheryl and
husband Robert Irwin, of North
York, Murray and wife Michelle, of
RR 1 Seaforth, Donald and friend
Janice Fairbairn, of Seaforth,
Christine and husband Ronald
Fleischauer, of RR 2 Milverton,
Greg and friend Marlene Hoggarth,
of RR . S'. Clinton, and Lisa and
husband Steven Fraser, of RR 4
Stratford; six grandchildren, her
mother-in-law, Susan Bennewies;
brothers, Harmon and wife Mary
Lynn Brodhagen, of Fordwich, and
Bruce Brodhagen, of Stratford;
sisters, Evelyn Sallows, of
Stratford, June and husband Lloyd
Simmons, of Wroxeter, and
Marlene and husband David
Ogletree, of St. Marys; a
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She was predeceased by a brother,
Kenneth.
Friends were received at the
Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home in
Seaforth on Monday, February 21
and Tuesday, February 22 where
funeral service wifl' be held
Wednesday, February 23 (today) at
2 p.m. Walter Gardiner will offici-
ate. Burial will be in Maitlandbank
Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy,
donations may be made to the
Kingdom Hall building fund or the
Canadian Cancer Society.
GREGORY MONTGOMERY
Gregory Ross Montgomery, son
of James and Donna (Davidson)
Montgomery of 128 Waterloo St.,
Mitchell passed away at University
Hospital, London on Saturday,
February 19, 1994 in his 19th year.
He was born in Seaforth, Ont., on
December 28, 1975. Greg had
resided at the Huron Street Resi-
dence in Exeter where he attended
South Huron District High School.
He was a part time employee at
Oscar's Video Store in Exeter.
Besides his parents he is survived
by three sisters Bonnie McCulligh
and her husband Dan of Mitchell,
Cherie Montgomery, attending
University of Waterloo and Lori
Montgomery, at home, one niece
Michelle McCulligh, grandmothers
Marjory Montgomery of Seaforth
and Irene Davidson of Mitchell and
by his extended family and friends
in Exeter. Also surviving are aunts
and uncles Beverley DeLong and
her husband Harold, Janice Gethke
and her husband John, all of
Mitchell, Gary Montgomery and his
wife Joyce of London, Bob
Montgomery and his wife Janice of
Mitchell, Ted Montgomery and his
wife Sandra and Marg Weber all of
Seaforth and many cousins. He was
predeceased by his grandfathers
Ross Montgomery of Seaforth and
Ross Davidson of Mitchell. Friends
were received at the Lockhart
Funeral Home in Mitchell on Sun-
day where the Funeral Services
were held on Monday with Rev. Dr.
Phil Johnson officiating. Spring
interment will be in Woodland
Cemetery, Mitchell.
LAURA STEWART
Laura Anne Stewart passed away
on Feb. 12, 1994 sifter a lengthy
illness at the Blue Water Rest
Home in Zurich, aged 85 years.
She was the eldest daughter of the
late Edith (Snowden) and Edward
Mole. Predeceasing her was her
first husband, Rev. H.V. Workman
in 1959, her second husband Rev. J.
Ure Stewart in 1982, one step-
daughter Muriel Christner (Mrs.
Lloyd Christner) one sister and
brother-in-law Donalda (Donna)
Cassidy in 1983 and Lawrence
Cassidy in 1973, also a brother
John Mole in infancy.
Surviving are a sister and brother-
irvlaw Vera and Alvin McDonald
of RR 2 Brussels, two nieces, Mrs.
Eugene Hirt (Carol) of Tillsonburg
arid Mrs. John Davies (Lynne) of
RR 2 Brussels along with three
nephews Garry, Wayne and Thayne
Cassidy. Many great nieces and
nephews survive, also two step-
children Dr. Ken Stewart and Mrs.
Alvin (Marjory) Hammond survive.
The funeral service was held on
Feb. 14, 1994 from the Whitney-
Ribey Funeral Home in Seaforth.
Rev. Bruce Cook was the officiat-
ing minister of Northside United
Church, Seaforth. Pallbearers were
Garry Cassidy, Thayne Cassidy,
John Davies, Robert (Bob)
McMillan, George Ribey and
Robert Mole.
Spring interment will be in Ball's
Cemetery, Hullett Township near
Auburn.
United Church women discuss
world issues in
When the Hibbert United Church
Wohien met on Feb. 9, Elaine
Colquhoun had charge of the theme
"Love". The women heard that to
make a dent in ttie problems of our
present society young and mature
individuals must open their souls to
their fellows in a partnership. Faith
and supportive relationships help
one to work for church and God,
the U.C.W. was told. "As we uplift
our fellow from his problem, we
strengthen ourselves".
Gwen Christie read the scripture
from Corinthians, Dorothy Dow
provided sacred music. Elaine
concluded with prayer.
Florence McPhail had charge of
the business period. Helen Fell
acted as secretary. She commented
on the Chinese New Year —'—
year of the Dog. One born in ,hat

of Superannuated Women Teachers)
Mitchell area, enjoyed a dinner and
happy get-together at Crosswinds
Restaurant on Wed, Feb. 16. Vera
Kemp and Guelda Holmes organ-
ized the group's meeting. Nancy
Kraemer (one of the retirees)
dressed as an elderly lady, paraded
in reciting "Humour", a comical
and enjoyable skit.
On the second part of the pro-
gram, the teachers were delighted to
have as a guest, Howard Sinclair
(Mitchell retired teacher) who took
the group on a delightful trip to
Iceland and Greenland, with a
Video, map, pictures and pamph-
lets, and talked -about his trip there
last July. Besides being entertain-
ing, it broadened everyone's knowl-
edge.
St. Patrick's School, Dublin, held
its Public Speaking last week. The
winners (and their topics) were as
NORAH HAZELWOOD
Norah (Hobbs) Hazelwood, of
Seaforth, died on Friday, February
18 at the Seaforth Community
Hospital.
Born in England on November
30, 1906, she was a daughter of the
late Thomas Hobbs and the former
Lucy Pierce. Her husband, Gilbert
Hazelwood, died in 1989.
Surviving are sons, Donald and
wife Francis, of Sparta, and
Frederick and wife Ruth, of Lon-
don; a brother, Albert and wife
Beatrice, of London; also eight
grandchildren and 13 great-
grandchildren..
There will be no funeral home
visitation or service. Following
cremation burial will be in Mount
Pleasant Cemetery„ London.
As expressions of sympathy,
donations may be made to a charity
of one's choice. Whitney-Ribey
Funeral Home, Seaforth, assisted
with arrangements.
