COMMUNICATION
Wingharn, Dec. 26th, 1916
To the Editor of the Wingbam Times
Dear Sir,—Aa you were not at the
famous meeting of the Town Council on
the morning of the 22nd, I wilt give you
a little of what passed. The meeting
was called to consider the financial
statement. You know, sir, that the
Council has nothing to do with it, as it
is the business of the Treasurer and
Mayor to prepare the statement. To
my mind it was Dr. Irwin's letter that
was the whole trouble. I said if any-
thing had been omitted from the
estimates, it was purely a mistake and
not intended and all the Mayor had to
do was to admit it at the nomination
meeting and tell the people how the
matter had been provided for. But,
sir, his advice was to come back to our
old places and fight all opposition.
There were five of our number prepared
to do so, but I objected, saying things
had gone too far for that to be adopted
by me. Mr. Patterson backed me up.
NOMINATION MEETING
Good Turn out of Ratepayers and
Many Candidates Were Nominated
Municipal nominations were held this
year on Friday evening last, owing to
the Christmas holiday falling on the
last Monday of the year. There was a
good attendance of ratepayers present
at the meeting in the Town Hall. On
account of the stores being open for the
Christmas trade, not many of the busi-
ness men were able to attend this
meeting. Town Clerk Groves' received
nominations from 7.30 to 8.30 o'clock.
At the close of the hour the following
persons had been nominated for the
