Rural programs discussed
Don't fund urban projects at the
expense of rural projects in
Tuckersmith Township, Deputy -
Reeve Robert Broadfoot told
Tuckersmith Council on Feb. 1.
"We haven't been doing very
much of our road work in the rural
area and we have to push that," he
said.
Tuckersmith Township is busy
preparing a list of projects which
might be considered under the
Canada -Ontario infrastructure
renewal program.
Reeve Bill Carnochan said there
would be more funds for projects in
the rural area. Those funds might
come from the infrastructure plan Or
from provincial road grants.
Coun. Larry McGrath asked to

have Centre Street' in Egmondville
near the United Church) put on the
list of projects to be funded under
the infrastructure program. A
motion to that effect was lost but
Centre Street may .yet be considered
for the program either on a priority
list or an alternate project.
"We're not going to make a deci-
sion tonight (on all the projects),"
said Bill Carnochan, Tuckersmith
Reeve. He said the council dis-
cussion was to give staff some
direction on a very preliminary list
of projects.
McGrath said he has been urging
work on the road for some time.
"I've been asking this question
since I've been on council and
that's six years."

Projects which might be presented
for funding under the infrastructure
renewal program may include work
on the Flute bridge en the second
concession of the Huron Road
survey, street light replacement in
Brucefield or resurfacing of the
Vanastra Road.
Council heard that replacement of
the Brucefield Street Lights with
high-pressure sodium would take
place in stages. The more efficient
lights might pay for further light
replacement through the energy
savings gained.
Clerk -Treasurer Jack McLachlan
urged quick action on the infra-
structure funding requests because,
as more projects are approved,
contractors bids might rise.
Fire board
budget lower
The Hensall-area Fire Board
has brought in a budget of
51,000 less than last year. .
"Every year these people are
doing a super job," saki Coun.
Bill belong, Thckersmith Town-
ship Council's representadve.
Deputy -Reeve Robert
B oot expressed concern that
if the budget is reduced this year
it could just, mein a larger
increase in a following year.
Coun. Bill DeJong responded
that the board shouldn't be crib- .
cized for bringing in a smaller
budget.
"They deserve congratula-
tions," said Bill Camochan,
Tuckersmith Township Reeve.
"The restraint they've shpwn is
admirable."
Councillors expressed concern
with some proposed increases in
spending.
"The word's got to get out we
can't continue to buy everything
on the wish list," said
Camochan.
