Winter hit the Huron area with a vengeance last week with some people stranded by the storm for a few hours. Local firm supports new commemorative woods idea The Box and Smith Funeral Home of Seaforth has committed to the Commemorative Woods pro- gram of the Ausable-Bayfield Con- servation Foundation. Alan Walper, chairman of ABCF, recently met with Christopher Smith of Box and Smith to accept a cheque for the charitable founda- tion. The Commemorative Woods program provides an opportunity for individuals, families, institutions or businesses to contribute to the tree - planting program as a lasting tribute to loved ones on occasions like anniversaries, birthdays or memor- ials. Six Commemorative Woods sites are available in the Ausable- Bayfield watersheds. THOSE FAMOUS SHAMROCKS - A picture was unveiled In honour of three famous St. Columban men • who were on the famous 'Shamrock Soccer Team', WFA Champions of 1933, namely: Father Thomas McQuaid, Father Jack McIver and Father Frank Moylan. The picture will be hung in the Bell Tower Entrance of the St. Columban Church. Relatives of the three priests present for the recent celebration were Fr. McQuaid's brother Wilt McQuaid and sisters Irene Allin of Goderich and Rose Burke of Stratford, and Tom and Lynn Burke and family of RR 2 Staffa as well as, for Fr. McIver, his sister Rdse Hayden and his brother Tom and wife, sister-in-law Joan McIver and for Father Moylan, Mary Moylan and Bill and Loulse'Weller, of Kitchener, Mary Moylan of St. Columban, Catherine Janossy of Walkerton, Don and Rita Moylan of RR 5 Seaforth and Bill and Luella Murphy and family of RR 4 Seaforth. A lot of people enjoyed having Christmas with their families this Christmas. Kathleen and Roay Williamson were able to spend the day with their daughter and son-in- law in Mitchell. Bill and Marie Coutts and daughter and her hus- band Connie and Bob Cook and Rollie from Mississauga spent Christmas day at their other daugh- ter, Karen and Allen Carter in Seaforth. Howard and Audrey Hackwell were pleased to have their daughter Pamela from Vancouver here for the Holidays. Get well wishes go to Kathleen Cuthill who fell and broke her hip December 26. She is currently in Stratford Hospital. Wanting to know what made the Holidays special for people this Christmas I phoned a few young people in the neighbourhood. Greg Clark said having his family around was great. His brother, from Winnipeg was home. Chris D Avies liked all the special food that they have at Christmas. Chad McCallum said Christmas was made special by having his dad home from the hospital healthy and happy. Terry Thompson was thankful that we got so much snow ro he could enjoy his snowmobile. Seaforth Legion - by Barbara Scott Anniversary party The Royal Canadian Legion Seaforth Branch 156 hopes every- one enjoyed New Years Eve. A capacity crowd was at the Legion Dinner and Dance. From all accounts it was a very big success. Good food, music and lots of fun including a surprise Piper from Calgary. Thanks go to everyone who helped make this such an outstanding success. On New Year's Day the annual Levee was held. It was not well - attended but it was a pleasant time for those who did attend, including Mayor Hazel Hildebrand. The Ladies' Auxiliary will be holding a Sunday Dinner for the Public on Sunday, Jan. 16. Ladies' Auxiliary members should keep in mind that desserts and help would be appreciated. On Jan. 29 at the Goderich Legion a Party is being held for the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Evelyn and Howard Carroll, well- known to all in the Legion. All the usual weekly activities at the Branch will be underway again. To all the Snow birds, you cer- tainly chose a good year to go south. We are having a good oldfashioned winter.
