Cents shut out Mitchell
The Seaforth Centenaires rank9ut
the old year by playing one of their
best games in recent memory but
began 1994 with one of their worst.
They had their clocks cleaned 6-1
by the Exeter Hawks Sunday ni?ht
in Ontario Hockey Association
Junior Development league play but
last Tuesday they dropped the other
Hawks, the defending charf'ips and
division leaders from Mitchell, 3-0.
Both games were played in front of
healthy crowds at the Seaforth and
District Community Centres. But
you would never guess it was the
same Seaforth team.
The split leaves the Centenaires
with a 13-9-4 record and in a fifth
place tie with Exeter, now both two
points back of the Lambeth Lancers
in fourth. Seaforth hits the road this
week with games at Alvinston (8:30
p.m.) Friday and Lucan (8:15 p.m.)
next Wednesday.
The Cents came out of the chute
like a herd of turtles Sunday and
only managed about a dozen shots
the entire game on Exeter's midget
goaltender Darren Kints. Seaforth's
powerplay was particularly ineffec-
tive, going 0 for 9 until Joe Murray
finally connected with the man
advantage, from Scott Wright and
Ted Sills, midway through the third
period with the game then long out
of reach. Meanwhile Nathan Burns
was a one-man wrecking crew for
the Hawks scoring four goals, three
on the powerplay. Exeter led 2-0
after the first period and 5-0 after
two, and had it not been for some
sharp saves by Seaforth goaltender
Jamie Redmond the Hawks could
have easily hit double figures.
It was a chippy affair with referee
Brian Donaher tagging each team
with 18 minor penalties. Exeter also
had a ejection for checking from
behind. The loss ended and eight -
game unbeaten run for the
Centenaires, dating back to Novem-
ber 19.

OVER HERE, REF - The three officials at last Tuesday night's Junior Development action at the Seaforth
arena raced to break up some skirmishes behind the Mitchell net but didn't notice a pair of players
tangled up on the ice. The Centenaires downed the division leading Mitchell Hawks 3-0. It was only
Mitchell's third loss of the season but the third shutout this season for Seaforth goalie ')ana Duskocy.
CENTS 3 - MITCHELL 0
It would take some serious his-
torical research to figure out the last
time Mitchell was shut out, let
alone by the Centenaires. It was
only Mitchell's third loss of the
season.
But it was Seaforth goaltender
Dana Duskocy's third shutout of the
'current campaign, assuring him of a
berth in the All-Star game later this
month at Lucan.
The Centenaires scored a goal
each period - by Jamie Ramer, Don
Scott and D6n Rivers. Chad Papple
had a pair of assists, including a
brilliant pass from the corner that
set up Ramer's opener. Chad Ramer
also had a assist as did Jason
Seaforth goaltender Dana Duskocy is . ikely all-
star with third shut -out of season against
Mitchell
Beuttenmiller, who dominated the
game defensively. Ted Sills didn't
put any points on the board but
played his best game in Seaforth
colours since way back when. Ref-
eree Steve Gould gave the
Centenaires five minor penalties
and Mitchell two.
HOT STOVE LEAGUE...The
Centenaires at Mitchell Boxing Day
game postponed because of blowing
snow has been rescheduled for
Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 8:30...The next
time Mitchell meets the Centenaires
in Seatbrth will be Minor Sports
Night on Friday, Jan. 21, with all
young Seaforth athletes admitted
free—Seaforth played both of last
week's games without leading
scorer Paul McLlwain who still has
three games remaining on a suspen-
sion. All other Seaforth suspensions
have now been served...Don Rivers
missed Sunday's game with the
flu...The Centenaires now have a 9-
3 record on home ice for a .750
winning percentage. They are 4-6-4
on the road at .429.
