broomball game at the Seaforth arena. The Seaforth Parr Line team downed Winthrop 7-1.

PARR LINE 7 - WINTHROP 1

stormy weather as she scores a hat
trick other goals scored by Tanya
Eckert, Heidi Elliott and Cathy
Innes, great passes by Suie, Bobber
and Kuss. Winthrop score on
Normy as she leaps, tips ball to the
wrong player and Stella says
"Thanks" and passes ball directly
over to Donna for a superb goal.
(Shelly two brooms are not allowed
at once).

spry Dale Kennedy, clean up from
Steve Eckert Jr., Ron Pryce.

PeeWees win
consolation at
Silver Stick
The Seaforth Peewee I hockey
team became the `B' Consolation
Winners -at the Watford Silverstick
Tournament on December 23, after
losing their first game to Kingsville
and winning the other three games
against Ridgetown 3-1, Petrolia 4-2
and Dresden 4-3.
The Ridgetown game on Monday,
Dec. 20 remained scoreless until the
middle of the second period. Tim
Sills, assisted by Mike Murray and
Ryan Van Dooren, scored first,
followed by Scott Van Dooren who
picked up a pass from Scott
Henderson Ridgetown then scored
but J.D. Nolan, assisted by Jason
Hulley and Scott Henderson, made
Seaforth's win a sure thing.
On December 22 they played
Dresden who got two goals in the
first period Seaforth however,
controlled period two when they
scored three goals. Ben. Murray
assisted Scott Van Dooren, S. Van
Dooren and Mike Murray assisted
Scott Henderson, and S. Henderson
and M. Murray assisted J.D. Nolan.
Dresden scored again in the third
and a sudden death overtime period
was played, with Derek Nesbitt
scoring the winning goal on a pass
in front of Tim Sills.
The final game was against
Petrolia on December 23. Petrolia
scored first, followed shortly by a
goal scored by Scott Henderson
who picked up the puck from Ben
Murray. Other goals that period
were scored by Henderson assisted
by M. Murray, and Derek Nesbitt
assisted by Jason Hulley and Tim
Sills. Sills then scored the fourth
goal assisted by D. Nesbitt. Petrolia
scored twice more in that game but
Seaforth hung onto win the game.
League play continued on Decem-
ber 28 in Mitchell where Seaforth
lost 3-1 with two goals disallowed.
Numeroys penalties were handed
out to,aforth but the Peewees did
an excellent job of penalty killing.
Scott Van Dooren scored, assisted
by Scott Henderson and J.D. Nolan.
Scott Henderson put in the two
disallowed goals.
Seaforth Tykes strong opponents
During the holidays the Seaforth
Tykes played two games against a
vastly improved Zurich WOAA
squad and the tough Bayfield
Tykes.
The Tykes lost these two games
but with a lucky a bounce at the
right time could easily have become
the victors.
ZURICH 4 - SEAFORTH 3
The Tykes ran into some hot
goaltending in this game. Seaforth
tied it 1-1 on a goal by Callahan
O'Reilly assisted by Brendan
Murray. Zurich was able to muster
a 4-1 lead. With less then 5 minutes
to play Tyler Elligsen scored two
quick goals within a minute of each
other. The first goal was unassisted
and the second goal chew an assist
from David Verbeme. With a
couple of minutes to play Seaforth
pulled their goalie and swarmed the
Zurich goal for the equalizer. After
several glorious chances, the buzzer
went and the only thing that
stopped the Tykes in this game was
Father time.
BAYFIELD 4 - SEAFORTH 2
The Tykes played another tough
game against the one-man wrecking
crew of Kyle Courtney and the
Bayfield Tykes on January 2.
Bradley Henderson opened the
scoring for Seaforth with a blazing
wristshot over tPk Bayfield goalie's
shoulder. Assists on the play went
to Callahan O'Reilly and Brendan
Seaforth Midgets win
In the week following Christmas,
the Seaforth Midgets did anything
but sit complacently and take it
easy. The Midgets spent their
holidays in a tournament hosted by
Tillsonburg.
The tournament guaranteed five
games in three days against some
very challenging opponents. The
size of Seaforth's minor hockey
system is rated "CC" and this
tournament was designed for teams
from "A" rated areas. Each team
will play five games, once against
each of the other five teams.
MIDGETS 3 - TILLSONBURG 0
Tuesday saw Seaforth play two
games, the first against the hosts of
the tournament, Tillsonburg. With
only three ten-minute periods to
play, early leads were important
and Seaforth took the initiative
halfway through the first period.
Jason Murray broke in on the
Tillsonburg goal often beating the
defence and dished a pass to Brad
Moore who one -timed the puck into
an open net. Murray then decided to
get a goal himself and after a
Seaforth penalty, Murray once
again scorched the Tillsonburg
defence to notch a short-handed
tally. Seaforth made it 3-0 late in
the game when Steve Mclnally
scored on a breakaway after bulling
his way through three defenders.
MIDGETS 5 - ESSEX 1
The second game of the day
proved to a little tougher when
Seaforth met Essex. A slow start by
Seaforth and tenacious forechecking
by their opponents *ave Essex a
lead with 4:04 remaining in the first
period. Before the opening period
was out, however, Jason Murray
pulled Seaforth even. The goal
inspired Seaforth and just 19
seconds into the next period Steve
McInally buried what was to be the
winner. Mclnally and Murray added
one more each and Brad Moore
scored late in the game to make the
final 5-1. Adam Afar stopped a
breakaway at a crucial part of the
game and made several other key
stops to help preserve the win.
MIDGETS 5 - HARROW 0
Wednesday had only one game
for Seaforth and it was against
Harrow/South Colchester. Seaforth
opened the scoring when Jason
Murray notched his fourth goal of
the tournament. Brad Moore scored
on a two -men advantage earlp in
the second. Then Steve McInally
scored a pair in the third to put
Seaforth up by four. Mike Hugill
lofted a backhand late in the game
to make it 5-0 for Seaforth. This
game marked the fourth shutout for
Chad Lamont in four starts, a very
impressive statistic.
STONEY CREEK 2
MIDGETS 1
Thursday was the day the two
undefeated teams met. Stoney
Creek had an identical record and
the winner was virtually guaranteed
the gold. Stoney Creek scored very
early in the first, then again early in
the second to take a commanding 2-
0 lead. Seaforth pulled within one
before the end of the middle period
when Steve McInally took a pass
from Wayne Schoonderwoerd and
Murray. Displaying their best team
effort todate, and led by the defens-
ive corps of Adam Broome,
Brittany Wiebans, Ryan Nurse,
McKenzie Fisher and Stephed
Medd coupled with the spectacular
goaltending of Matt Dalton Seaforth
kept the powerful Bayfield squad
off the scoresh`dCt. However,
Courtney, doing his best "Wayne
Gretzky" impression put Bayfield
ahead with two solo breakaway
efforts. The boys came back on a
goal by David Verbeme, assisted by
Bradley Henderson to knot the
score at two apiece to set up a
dramatic finish. With grit and deter-
mination the Seaforth team buzzed
around the Bayfield net with Matt
Carnochan and David Verbeme
silver
nearly ripped a hole in the back of
the net. The third period was end-
to-end, fast paced, exciting hockey.
Seaforth missed countless
opportunities to even the score and
in the end Stoney Creek was on
top. Adam Agar played a great
game in goal, stopping many
Stoney Creek shots that could have
and maybe should have been goals.
MIDGETS 4 - BRACEBRIDGE 1
With a virtual lock on silver and
an outside chance at gold, Seaforth
had one game left to play and that
was against the 1-3 Bracebridge
team. A slow start left Seaforth
behind after one period of play by
a goal. The Midgets took control
early in the second and scored
twice. Seaforth added another pair
in the final period to end the game
4-1. Stoney Creek won their final
game so Seaforth went home with
silver.
ON TAP...This weekend Seaforth
travels to Sarnia where lite Silver
Suck Finals are held, a tournament
held exclusively for the regional
Silver Stick Champions.
Novices defeat Brussels
The Seaforth Novice I's hockey
team had three games over the
holiday -season, winning one, losing
one and one was stormed out.
In an exhibition game against
Brussels the Novices produced what
Pat Burns is looking for - scoring
throughout the line-up. In the 5-2
victory, Jason Denys fed Joey
Nesbitt who threaded a shot from
the point for Seaforth's first goal.
The lead was increased to 2-0 as
Nick Elligsen converted a pass from
Kyle Devereaux. Billy Gridzak
notched his fh'st of the season after
Mike Del Vecchio found him alone
in front of the net and then
Devereaux and Elligsen combined
again, with Devereaux scoring to
build Seaforth's lead to 4-0: Mid-
way through the third )period Steve
Carnochan fed rightwinger, Jason
Denys, for the fifth goal of a well-
earned victory against a tough Brus-
sels squad.
It looked like a different team
showed up for a league game
against Mitchell the next night.
Mitchell is probably the class of the
league and when the Seaforth squad
is playing its best it can give
Mitchell a real test, as an earlier 2-
1 defeat of Mitchell demonstrates.
However, the Seaforth boys were
not at their best as Mitchell
pounded our Novices 8-2. Nick
Elligsen scored Seaforth's first goal
on a long shot and then Elligsen
cotnbined with Gridzak to set up
Kyle Devereaux who notched the
other Seaforth tally.
The Novices practice at the reg-
ular time Wednesday and then host
Goderich at 6:30 on Thursday, Jan.
6.
k /A 1,-- -a
missing very close opportunities.
Courtney picked up the puck and
scored again with less than four
minutes to go to put Bayfield in the
lead with another patented solo rush
down the length of the ice. To put
the icing on the cake Courtney
scored his fourth of the contest to
salt the game away and rally the
final score Bayfield 4, Seaforth 2.
The Seaforth squad played deter-
mined, team - oriented, positional
hockey in both games and must be
congratulated for their good work.
However, the major part -of the
schedule lies ahead and these lucky
bounces tend to even themselves
out. Keep up the great work team.
