Peewee girls strong at Fastballfest
the U 1 4 Peewee Seahawks
opened the Mitchell Fast-
ballfest Tournament on June
2 at Ketering Park versus
Waterdown.
Janelle Dither was given
the start for the locals. The
Seahawks led 6-2 after the
first as Grace Taylor and
Jaimy Langille set the top of
the order nicely for a Katie
Ridsdale RBI double.
Kate Johnston then sin-
gled.home Emily Ilartin to
extend the inning. Bella
Moore capped off the out-
burst with a two run single.
Goderich, however,
seemed to play fairly incon-
sistent in this opener com-
bining some great play with
some real "head scratchers"
both defensively, and, offen-
sively allowing a Waterdown
club to stay in the game right
until the end.
Payton Swan stroked a
fabulous RBI single to centre
field 'to give Goderich an
11-8 lead. However, Water -
down took advantage of the
. less focused Seahawks scor-
ing four in the top half of the
final inning to grab the one
run lead.
In the bottom half, Jamie
Archambault led off with a
line drive blast up the mid-
dle which actually knocked
the glove off of the pitcher's
hand, but, the young Water -
down hurler had the pres-
ence of mind to compose
herself and throw to first for
the deflating out.
Two. ground balls later,
and, the Seahawks were left
with a lesson in the impor-
tance of being game ready
from start to finish'.
Seahawks 15 vs Mitchell 8
With very little time to
dwell on the previous night,
the 8:00 am game versus the
hometown Mitchell Hornets
came very quickly.
Goderich starter, Brianna
Maclay, battled hard all
game, and, helped her own
cause at the plate with an
impressive 3 for 3
performance.
Ava Fitzgerald also had a
great game at the plate going
2 for 2 with a spectacular
bunt single.
Defensively, Zoe Milne
had a busy game expertly
covering first base and the
right side of the infield.
Seahawks 16 vs Carnlachie
10
The Seahawks played their
Saturday matinee
game versus the Camlachie
Cougars with Payton Swan
taking the mound dirties
scattering six hits, and, only
allowing one free pass to the
Cougars.
Coach Sherri Coleman
said, „Payton throws strikes
which allows our team to
always stay in any game and
make the other tears early
their runs with hits." •
The locals were once again
led at the plate by the tal-
ented rookie Jaimy Langille,
and,. veteran Grace Taylor
who had a three RBi
performance.
In the Goderich half of the
fourth inning, I lannah Kent
itnpressed the Coaching
Staff with an at bat that saw
the rookie get behind early
in the count, but, battle off
several tough pitches before
scoring Zoe Milne from third
on a well placed ground ball
to the right side of the infield
earning high praises..
The Seahawks narrowly
missed the Sunday playoff
round with, a 2-1 record
because of runs against tie-
break format, which saw the
Exeter Express move on
instead.
Coach Glen Ditner, while
Goderich Shuffleboard
There was a good turn out
of 48 players for Bowling
Pin Shuffleboard this week.
There were a lot of bowl-
ing pins being knocked over
and.a great deal of laughter
at the outcomes.
Despite the added degree
of difficulty there were 8
players who won all three
game&
The winners were Norm
Robertson, Joan McCauley,
Doug Scott, Hector R.
MacLeod, Bill Roper, Dar-
lene Bard, Linda McRae
and Jay McCauley.
The winner of the pro-
pane coupon from Huronia
Welding and Propane was
won by Claire Hayter. We
thank Huronia for their kind
sponsorship.
The Ontario
Shuffleboard League held
their annual tournament
in Woodstock on May 29 to
30 and there were several
of our own members in
attendance.
Linda McRae placed 2nd
in the pros and Garrit and
Gerdien Dykman came in
3rd in the amateur main
and also 4th in the pro con-
solation. Congratulations
somewhat concerned with
the high number of runs
allowed, felt the club played
some great exciting ball dur-
ing the weekend.

Hometown Heroes Charity Hockey Game
Hockey Fever Hits Huron County
The NHL playoffs have been a rollercoaster of
emotions for Canadian hockey fans. The end of the
season has resulted in an unforeseen consequence.
Hockey fever is spreading throughout Huron County
at a high rate. Employers. across the county have
reported an increasing number of employees
calling in sick with a variety of symptoms. In one
particular case, a man had to quit his job because
he could not take off his hockey jersey for weeks.
Hockey withdrawal has hit the county in the past, but
this year has shattered previous records. Another
symptom of hockey fever is binge watching past
games. Doctors have reported that binge watching
can last for weeks and the symptoms can become
so severe that people cannot move from the couch
or watch anything else on TV. .The side-effects
of binge watching include low motivation to do
anything other than watch hockey. As hockey fever
continues to spread throughout Huron County, local
hospitals have reported that people suffering from
this unique fever have. higher blood pressure and
increased heart rates while watching hockey games.
Others have reported that they cannot stop listening
to hockey music, playing hockey trivia or reading
hockey books.
Despite the high rates of hockey fever, people in
Huron County should not worry. Hockey fans can
cure their symptoms by attending the Hometown
Heroes hockey game on July 20th. Tickets can be
purchased at the YMCA, MP Ben Lobb's Goderich
Office, the Alexandra Marine & General Hospital or.
online at www.eventbrite.ca.
