St. Anne's girls' rugby flnishes.fourtb in province Justine Alkema Postmedia Network After winning WOSSAA for the tenth year in a row, the St. Anne's girls' rugby team headed to OFSAA in Ajax from May 29-31. They were seeded third in the tournament. The St. Anne's Eagles defeated Newtonbrook from Toronto 69-5 in their opening match of the tournament. "The entire team played well and all players got on the field," said coach Ryan Clancy. "Jay- mee Nolan was recognized as woman of the match for St. Anne's." They followed that with a match against Sutton District High School, seeded sixth, the next day. They won the game 19-7. After that victory, they played Bayside from Belleville the same day, a team seeded number two. That matched determined if they were to move onto the gold medal match, or play for bronze. Unfortunately, the Eagles did not get a chance this year to play in the gold match. 'Ihey fell 27-0 to Bellville. `This was in pretty soggy condi- tions after a 25 hour delay for light- ning, so it was tough, said Clancy. They had a break overnight before playing Smith Falls the next day who was seeded fourth in the tournament. "The St. Anne's Eagles put in a valiant effort but fell agonizingly by a final score of 12-10 to the fourth seeded Smiths Falls team," said Clancy in an email. the Clinton school represented their region proudly and played unbelievably high level rugby in the bronze medal match" Stacy Masse was recognized as Woman of the Match for St Anne's.
