Annual 1 Iandbags for I Iospice Gala
in Clinton, Ontario.
The 1 luron County communities
were overwhelmingly supportive
and the fundraising gala was sold
out months before the event with
over 250 guests in attendance.
Huron Hospice welcomed back
Layne, the Auctionista and with the
help of community minded indi-
viduals, the gala raised over
$27,000.
The charity auction included
over 100 designer handbags in the
Silent and Live Auctions including
designers such as Kate Spade,
Coach, Tory Burch, Burberry, and
experience packages donated by
community members.
The ladies night gala also
included hors d'oeuvres by Part II
Bistro in Blyth, games, drinks and a
raffle for a Michael Kors handbag.
One of the highlights of the gala
was a Mackage handbag and hand-
written note from Madame Sophie
Gregoire Trudeau, also signed by
her husband Prime Minister Justin
Trudeau.
Emily Hildebrand, the highest
bidder, said, "I. feel very fortunate
to have been able to purchase this
purse donated by Sophie Trudeau
with the handwritten letter by her,
knowing that the money will be
used directly to support our
community".
The evening also included an
emotional speech from Leah Mar-
ten, a local high school student
Leah Marten, of St. Anne's CSS,
shared her personal story around
loss and grief. She also shared the
importance of the educational Grief
Recovery program offered by Huron
Hospice. (In the background is Huron

who bravely spoke about her per-
sonal story and the role Jackie
Simpson, a Grief Recovery Special-
ist with Huron Hospice had in sup-
porting her own grief recovery.
The Grief Recovery Method" Out-
reach Program for youth is a recog-
nized need within Huron Hospice,
which is solely based and delivered
on fundraised dollars.
The goal of the evening and with
the assistance of Leah's personal
story was to raise $5000 with the
intent of promoting this educa-
tional program to all Huron County
High Schools. Within 5 minutes,
the attendees raised over $15,000
for this Huron Hospice specialized
program.
The 2nd Annual Handbags for
I Iospice Gala may be finished for
2017 but the committee is starting
to plan for next year. Watch the
Huron Hospice Facebook page and
website for the announcement of
when and where in 2018.
