Youth Council celebrates Goderich Ilk As part of the Goderich Ar 190 celebrations, the Youth Council organized the #MyGoderich project Kathleen Smith, Goderich Signal. Star The Goderich Youth Council has cre- ated a project, #MyGoderich, in cele- bration of Goderich 190. Partnered with the Goderich Public Art Committee, the project will be dis- played on a public art installation. The main focus of this project was to provide the community of Goderich with the chance to voice what makes them proud of being part of the town. Each answer from members of the community will be displayed upon the art installation in a unique way, and the plan is to complete the project for the Canada 150 and Goderich 190 celebrations. In a Goderich Town Council meet- ing, two members from the Youth Council, Eric MacPhee and Derek Wil- liams presented the #MyGoderich pro- ject to members of Town Council and members of the media. "It was a great experience and opportu- nityto sit and hear in on a Council meeting Being able to stand up in front of the Mayor and give them an update on the Youth Council, and asking them if they would fill out an answer for the project was truly amazing" explained MacPhee. "With no hesitation, they alt wanted to fill out a response. They really liked what we were doing and impressed the youth are doing something beneficial for the town. I'm really looking forward to giving them another update on the Youth Council at the next town Council meeting." According to the Youth Council, the inspiration for this project stemmed from a desire to take part in the cele- bration of Goderich 190, and to display how unique and amazing Goderich is. "A project like this is important because it will hopefully give a different perspective on the youth in town. Youth and even young adults like myself, never really had a voice in this town prior to the creation of this coun- cil," stated MacPhee. "We're hoping this project casts a new light on us [the youth] moving for- ward in the community and shows the drive and willingness we actually have to see Goderich grow and maintain it's. true beauty for many years to come." The final result of the project will be displayed on the two blue structures currently located in Court House Park. The display would be a great way to hon- our an amazing community and Canada's Prettiest Town for Goderich 190. The time frame for submitting a response to the question "What makes you proud of being a part of the Goder- ich community?" has now closed, as the Youth Council prepares the unique display for the Goderich 190 celebrations. For those who are interested to share photos of Goderich, which will be dis- played online for the #MyGoderich project, please send photos via direct message to the Youth Council Instagram account @ goderichyouthcouncil or via email to goderichyouthcouncil@gmaiLcom.
