lWeen Crushers Great Hosts
The Goderich 1114 ice
Crushers played host to the
Kitchener Wildcats at
Memorial Arena on Satur-
day, February 25th. The
home. Crushers were all
business in their approach to
the afternoon doubleheader
versus a Wildcat club that
they knew they could domi-
nate with their speed.
In game one, Michaela
Alcock and Arden Bowler set
the tone on the first shift of
the game with a dominating
forecheck. Each unit that
Coach Simon 'Taylor sent out
created a lot of opportunities
while the defence of Kiara
Plumsteel, Giselle Mcll-
hargey, Shalen Kernighan,
Ava Fitzgerald, and, Megan
Kovats did a great job of pro-
tecting the Goderich end
giving goalie Hannah Kent a
well-deserved light work-
load. The Crushers, however,

great feed from Arden

a 4-0 victory with a sneaky

February 23rd saw the U14
Ice Crushers travel to St.
Marys facing a Snipers club
that had yet to lose a game
this season in the competi-
tive Western Region Ringette
League:(W.R.R.L.). Looking
toward the home stretch
with only a couple of games
remaining before the West-
ern Regionals in London in
late March, Coach Simon
Taylor was using this game
as a measuring stick to see
just where these young
Crushers were at. Said
Taylor..."They're in first place
for a reason. They have a
very veteran team with
plenty of firepower."
Hannah Kent had the
unenviable task of shutting
down the Sniper offence, and,
she did not disappoint in this
one making many key saves
throughout the contest
keeping things close in the
first half of the game. After the
home side grabbed an early
lead, the "rookie line" of Ruby
Olson, Kayleigh Goud, and,
Camryn Austin evened things
up a minute later. The goal
trading continued with Goud,
and, Grace Taylor scoring
after a nice feed from Payton
Swan. The visitors then
received some excellent work
by forwards Avery Cross, and,
wrist shot past an over-
worked Wildcat goalie.
Following game 1, the two
teams enjoyed some time.
together upstairs in the Audi-
toriinn with some snacks.
Both Coach Staff's com-
mented on how well both
teams interacted with each
other having a ton of fuer.
In game 2, the home
_Crushers did not wait very
long to stake Hannah Kent to
an early lead. Just over a min-
ute into the game, Amelia
Denomme was the recipient
Giselle Mcllhargey.Te Snip-
ers took advantage of a fortu-
nate bounce to go ahead 5-3
at the recess. Although down a
couple at the break, it was
noticeable that the defensive
work of Kiara Plumsteel, Katie
Ridsdale, Megan Kovats, and,
Ava Fitzgerald were beginning
to slow down the speedy
Sniper attack.
The final frame saw the
Crushers come out strong as
of some nice passing from
Ruby Olson and Ava Fitzger-
ald. The young Crusher made
no mistake as she expertly
deked a helpless Kitchener
goalie. The Wildcats contin-
ued to battle hard in this con-
test, and, were finally
rewarded with four minutes
remaining in the opening
frame when they managed to
snap Hannah Kent's 41 min-
ute goal -less streak to knot
the game at one. At the 1:42
mark, Giselle Mcllhargey
broke the tie after
Michaela Alcock (while
breaking in a new pair of
skates) hada great shift.
Olson made it a one -goal
game with assists going to
Ridsdale and Taylor: Less
than a minute later, Kayleigh
Goud buried an Alcock feed
to tie things up. With 2:46 to
play, Goud completed the hat
trick courtesy of some excel-
lent passing from Taylor and
Swan giving. the Crushers
some awesome passing from
Camryn Austin and Megan
Kovats.
During the break, bench
boss Claudia Goud reminded
the players to keep moving
the ring, and, to keep skating.
The final period saw both
teams exchange some quality
chances. With seven minutes
remaining, Kayleigh Goud
buried a Kovats feed to put
the Crushers in a more com-
fortable position allowing
them to cruise to the 3-1
victory.
their first lead of the game
creating a lot of excitement at
the Pyramid Centre. The
proud Snipers were not about
to go down easily, and, with
just over a minute remaining
tied the game at 6-6. The
Crushers continued to press
for the win getting some good
zone pressure in the last min-
ute, but, simply ran out of
time settling for a well-
earned road tie:
