The home. Crushers were all business in their approach to the afternoon doubleheader versus a Wildcat club that they knew they could domi- nate with their speed. In game one, Michaela Alcock and Arden Bowler set the tone on the first shift of the game with a dominating forecheck. Each unit that Coach Simon 'Taylor sent out created a lot of opportunities while the defence of Kiara Plumsteel, Giselle Mcll- hargey, Shalen Kernighan, Ava Fitzgerald, and, Megan Kovats did a great job of pro- tecting the Goderich end giving goalie Hannah Kent a well-deserved light work- load. The Crushers, however, took a lot of penalties in this One spending much of the opening period in the pen- alty box contributing to a scoreless game at the break Sweep Wildcats lust over a minute into the final frame, Kayleigh Gond atoned for some earlier pen- alty woes by converting on some great passing from Ruby Olson and Megan Kovats. Katie Ridsdale then put the finishing touches on a 4-0 victory with a sneaky U14 Crushers Earn Tie inStoneTown February 23rd saw the U14 Ice Crushers travel to St. Marys facing a Snipers club that had yet to lose a game this season in the competi- tive Western Region Ringette League:(W.R.R.L.). Looking toward the home stretch with only a couple of games remaining before the West- ern Regionals in London in late March, Coach Simon Taylor was using this game as a measuring stick to see just where these young Crushers were at. Said Taylor..."They're in first place for a reason. They have a very veteran team with plenty of firepower." Hannah Kent had the unenviable task of shutting down the Sniper offence, and, she did not disappoint in this one making many key saves throughout the contest keeping things close in the first half of the game. After the home side grabbed an early lead, the "rookie line" of Ruby Olson, Kayleigh Goud, and, Camryn Austin evened things up a minute later. The goal trading continued with Goud, and, Grace Taylor scoring after a nice feed from Payton Swan. The visitors then received some excellent work by forwards Avery Cross, and, wrist shot past an over- worked Wildcat goalie. Following game 1, the two teams enjoyed some time. together upstairs in the Audi- toriinn with some snacks. Both Coach Staff's com- mented on how well both teams interacted with each other having a ton of fuer. In game 2, the home _Crushers did not wait very long to stake Hannah Kent to an early lead. Just over a min- ute into the game, Amelia Denomme was the recipient Giselle Mcllhargey.Te Snip- ers took advantage of a fortu- nate bounce to go ahead 5-3 at the recess. Although down a couple at the break, it was noticeable that the defensive work of Kiara Plumsteel, Katie Ridsdale, Megan Kovats, and, Ava Fitzgerald were beginning to slow down the speedy Sniper attack. The final frame saw the Crushers come out strong as of some nice passing from Ruby Olson and Ava Fitzger- ald. The young Crusher made no mistake as she expertly deked a helpless Kitchener goalie. The Wildcats contin- ued to battle hard in this con- test, and, were finally rewarded with four minutes remaining in the opening frame when they managed to snap Hannah Kent's 41 min- ute goal -less streak to knot the game at one. At the 1:42 mark, Giselle Mcllhargey broke the tie after Michaela Alcock (while breaking in a new pair of skates) hada great shift. Olson made it a one -goal game with assists going to Ridsdale and Taylor: Less than a minute later, Kayleigh Goud buried an Alcock feed to tie things up. With 2:46 to play, Goud completed the hat trick courtesy of some excel- lent passing from Taylor and Swan giving. the Crushers some awesome passing from Camryn Austin and Megan Kovats. During the break, bench boss Claudia Goud reminded the players to keep moving the ring, and, to keep skating. The final period saw both teams exchange some quality chances. With seven minutes remaining, Kayleigh Goud buried a Kovats feed to put the Crushers in a more com- fortable position allowing them to cruise to the 3-1 victory. their first lead of the game creating a lot of excitement at the Pyramid Centre. The proud Snipers were not about to go down easily, and, with just over a minute remaining tied the game at 6-6. The Crushers continued to press for the win getting some good zone pressure in the last min- ute, but, simply ran out of time settling for a well- earned road tie: MADE YOU LOOK!
