Court House back in
business this week
Plans are on track for the Goderich Court House to be open
for regular business on December 12.
County Chief Administrative Officer, Larry Adams, says
they have been given the green light from the company that
has been testing the air quality of the building. There is no
concern about either asbestos or mould.
"We are looking forward to getting back up and running in
the Court House. We know it is safe for occupancyand staff
are anidous to move back."
The primary restoration of the Court House is expected to
be completed on Dec. 2. Staff will be working to ensure all
technical systems are ready during the week. Staff will begin
to move back into the building on December 9. Adams says
they hope to be operating close to normal on Monday,
December 12.
The County Administration, Treasury, Provincial Offences
and Highways Departments should be available at the Court-
house or by calling 519-524-5394.
The mailing address for those services remains
unchanged.
Huron County retained Stantec Consulting Ltd. (Stantec)
to conduct air sampling for asbestos and airborne mould
spore evaluation of the Goderich Courthouse following the
tornado.
Stories of Aug. 21. torn o
compiled
The book, Not Like Any Other Sunday, will be released on
Friday, December 9th at a book launch at the Goderich
.;Public Library.
"Not Like AnyOther Sunday' is a compilation of more
than 50 stories that came out of the F3 Tornado that ripped
through the town on August 21, 2011, destroying many
homes and businesses, and taking the life of one.
The book is co -edited by Rlizabeth Bundy -Cooper and
Cathy Cove. Elizabeth grew up in Goderich and now resides
in Stratford and the content editor of a website. Cathy just
celebrated twenty-five years of calling Goderich home and
Is a freelance writer for the Goderich Signal Star.
The two women came up with the idea to collect the
stories and put them in print. It took about two months to
compile and edit the submissions before it went toprint.
The book is being printed by Predslon Print in P and
will be sold for $20. All proceeds will be donated to Victim
Services of Huron County. Victim Services Executive
Director Shelley Dorey's story of how she lost her home is a
highlight of the book.
"One of the reasons why we picked Victim Services as a
redplent of the proceeds is because Shelley lost her home in
the tornado," says Bundy -Cooper. "She became the victim at
a critical time when there were so many other people who
needed her help."
Bundy -Cooper and Cove are humbled that the contribu-
tors trusted them to help tell their stories. The stories are
tragic, sad, happy and hopeful. It is interesting to note that
the stories in the book essentially take the same path the
tornado did - beginning at the harbour and then from west
to pct.
