"Energy is a very important portfolio and I'm honoured that he feels l can work alongside (PC Energy Critic) Vic Fedeli. This appointment rec- ognizes that Huron -Bruce plays an important role in energy development in nuclear, wind development and solar, she said last week. Thompson said that about 25 per cent of her 300 volunteers had energy as their main elec- tion issue, adding that wind development was one of four top election issues in the riding, along with the Walkerton jail, the job market in Energy is a very important portfolio and I'm honoured that he feels I can work alongside (PC Energy Critic) Vic Fedeli. This appointment recognizes that Huron -Bruce plays an important role in energy development in nuclear, wind development and solar Huron -Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson rural Ontario and rural school closures. "For the folks in the southern part of the rid- ing, the hot buttonissue was wind develop- ment," she said. Thompson said she has been tasked by Hudak to delve into the Green Energy Act, focusing on health issues and municipal authority related to wind turbine placement. "When speaking to Tim Hudak about the job, he said, 'Lisa, It will allow you to continue push- ing for a moratorium on wind development until health studies are completed,' said Thompson, adding that she still wants to see "proper third party studies done locally to reflect local results." As well, she said planning authority needs to be given back to municipalities about the loca- tion of industrial wind turbine projects. "But, we want to be smart about it. We heard loud and clear during the campaign that the Green Energy Act is a mess and the way it stands, the municipalities don't want their authority back. They need the proper tools and Lisa Thompson direction in place so they feel comfortable and confident in that robe, she said. Thompson pointed out that she hasn't had a chance yet to sit down with Fedeli to Identify how they will move forward but emphasized that "we will be engaging with stakeholders and hold g the government accountable.' With her agricultural background, Thompson said she's looking forward to working with col- leagues who are Critics to the Ministry of Agri- culture and Food and Rural Affairs and the Min- istry of Municipal Affairs. "The energy portfolio is a perfect fit for me and this riding and it crosses over into other minis- tries. I recognize there's a lot of talent in the PC caucus and it's theicing on my cake that I'm able to work with my Conservative colleagues and learn from the best. Energy is a key issue in our riding and I'm very fortunate to be able to delve into it" she said. Perth Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece was named Deputy Critic of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and 'Thompson said she is looking forward to working with him. Thompson's constituency offices will be located in the former offices of recently -defeated Huron -Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell in Clinton and Kincardine with the same phone numbers. "We are dictated by legislative rule to take over the existing offices in Clinton and Kincardine for the sake of continuity," she said, adding that the offices should be staffed and open sometime over the next few weeks. In the meantime, phone calls are being forwarded to support staff in Toronto. She added that Conservative Huron - Bruce MP Ben Lobb and his office have also been forwarding calls meant for her office. Thompson will be sworn in at Huron -Bruce MPP at a Nov. 4 ceremony at Queen's Park and anticipates Nov. 14 as her first day sitting in the Ontario Legislature.
