The Goderich Signal-Star, 2009-11-18, Page 35Midget Sailorettes beat first -place Rams The Goderich Midget Sailorettes won a 3-0 major victoryover the top-ranked Mount Forest Rams Sunday night in Mount Forest. In three close -played periods, the Sailorettes managed to withstand the Mount Forest offence and score three unanswered goals. With As- sistance from Jacqueline Martin and Taylor Pritchard, Rachel Sow- erby scored the first Goderich goal, which also proved to be the game winner. In a shot from the slot, Kelsa Curran fired the puck between the Mount Forest goaltender's pads and scored the second Sailorette goal. With less than a minute of play in the third period, the Sailorette were outnumbered six skaters t three, Emily Gordon scored a stun ning short-handed goal on Moun Forest's open net. Quick -acting defensive wor from Laura Smith and Kristen Mc Coll, allowed Jessica Yates to e. the shut out. Bantam Sailorettes go to town on Wildcats The Goderich Bantam Knights of Colombus Sailorettes stopped Wilmot in their tracks on October 22 with a 6-4 win. Candace Cunningham was on a roll with two goals and an assist. Kate-lynn Skinner, Jordan McWhin- ney, Jessica Hastie and Hailey McIn- tyre each added goals with Hastie, Skinner, McIntyre, Jessica Thompson and Maddie Melady earning the as- sists. It was then back-to-back games against the Tillsonburg Lightning where the Goderich girls dominated play and picked up two more wins. The team then fought hard against Mt. Forest but came out with a 3-0 loss. On Nov 7, it was off to play the Woolwich Wildcats and the girls man- age to rack up another win. Samantha Hodges started off the scoring for Goderich and Hailey Bakker tipped one in to make them down by one goal at the end of the first period. The Sailoretttes then went to town on the Wildcats with Bakker, Taylor Hulley, Jennifer Baer and McIntryre beating the Wildcat netminder to take the 6-3 victory. Goderich netminder Lauren German made some key saves in an exhibition game against Kin- cardine. Final score was 3-1 for Kin- cardine with Baer digging in to pass the puck out to McWhinney and Aja Hogan -Cann who combined efforts to sneak it past the goalie.
