Vikings finish second in junior girls basketball
The Goderich District Collegiate Institute junior girls
basketball team took second place in the Huron -Perth
finals last week, with a narrow 33-37 loss to St. Mike's
in Stratford.
The Warriors were the only team to consistently pro-
vide a challenge for the junior Vikes in regular season,
and that proved the case once again for the Huron -Perth
final. Listowel edged out Stratford Northwestern for the
consolation championship.
In senior girls basketball, the
Vikes took on South Huron at
home November 11 in the con-
solation final, with a close win
over South Huron 44-41.
The senior Vikes were fifth
after regular season play,
and lost a 40-34 quarter final
against F.E. Madill before
., taking a 30-28 overtime win
against Mitchell for a chance
at the consolation.
Stratford Central defeated
St. Mike's 50-33 in the senior
championship match.

Bantam AE start season strongly
The Goderich Bantam AE boys hockey
team is off to a flying start for the 09/10 sea-
son.
Game one saw the Sailors take on Mitchell,
and Goderich dominated from the opening
whistle, finishing with a 10-1 victory.
Jake Moulten led the way with a hat trick
and Lane Pitblado and Luke Fraser each
scored two. Quinn Frayne, Ben Martin and
Zack Horton followed up with singles. Frayne,
Alex Conlon, Horton, Brad Gethke and Aus-
tin Kemighan picked up assists.
Game two was a battle against a tough Dray-
ton team. The Sailors were down 6-4 going
into the third, and goaltender Brady Bowman
was outstanding, making a couple huge saves
to allow Goderich to bring things back to a 6-6
tie. Goals were scored by Austin Kemighan,
Harry Parsons, Horton, Martin, Fraser and Pit-
blado.
itblado. Helping them out were Parsons, Fraser,
Pitblado, Horton and Chad Kernighan.
In game three, the Sailors took the ice against
Seaforth with only nine skaters, and four of
those under the weather. A hard-fought 2-1
victory was brought
home for Goderich,
with Pitblado and
Frayne finding the
back of the net. Fraser
took the lone assist
and Bowman was
again solid in net.
On November
6-8, the Sailors took
in their first tourna-
ment, finishing the
St. Marys round robin
with two wins and
two losses.
Kudos go out to
coaches Frayne, Bow-
man and Pitblado and
the braining staff for
an exciting start to the
season.
