Unlicensed driver caught attempting to avoid R.I.D.E. check
On November 14 Huron OPP officers
were conducting a R.I.D.E. spot check
on Front Road in the Municipality of
Huron East. At approximately 8 p.m. a
vehicle turned towards the checkpoint
but then turned around to avoid it. An
officer followed the vehicle and caught
up to it on Ontario Street in Clinton
where a traffic stop was initiated.
Investigation revealed that the male
driver was unlicensed due to a prior
Criminal Code driving conviction. The
driver was arrested for Driving While
Disqualified. Tle vehicle he was oper-
ating was towed and will be impounded
for 45 days as per statute. The liquor
inside the vehicle was also seized. A 20
year-old Stratford resident was charged
with one count of Driving While Dis-
qualified and one count of Drive Motor
Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available.
He will answer to his charge in Goder-
ich Court on January 11, 2010.
SPEEDING LEADS TO DRUG BUST
On November 14 at approximately 8
p.m., a Huron OPP officer was stopped
at the stop light on Main Street at God-
erich Street facing south. At that time
a northbound vehicle made a right turn
onto Goderich Street and began ac-
celerating at a high rate of speed east-
bound. The officer conducted a traffic
stop and while speaking to the driver,
he detected the odour of an alcoholic
beverage on the drivers' breath. An
empty beer bottle was found in the ve-
hicle. The officer made a demand for
the driver to provide a roadside sample
of his breath and the driver complied.
No charges were laid as a result of the
roadside breath test. A search of the
vehicle revealed two baggies of sus -

As a result of the investigation, a
24 -year-old Huron East resident was
charged with Possession of a Con-
trolled Substance — Cannabis Mari-
huana. He will answer to his charge in
Goderich Court on January 11, 2010.
PROHIBITED DRIVER CAUGHT DUE TO
TRANSPORTING UNSAFE LOAD
On November 10, at approximately
2:30 p.m., a Huron OPP officer stopped
a pickup truck on Ontario Street in Cen-
tral Huron after observing that it had
an insecure load in the back causing a
potential traffic hazard. Upon speaking
to the driver of the truck, the officer
confirmed that the man was prohibited
from driving due to a prior criminal
driving offence conviction. The driver
was arrested for Drive While Prohib-
ited which is a Criminal Offence.
As a result, a 45 year-old Central
Huron resident was charged with one
count of Drive While Prohibited and
one count of Insecure Load. He will
answer to his charge in Goderich Court
on December 21. The vehicle he was
operating was towed and is being im-
pounded for 45 days as per statute.
COMPLAINTS NET DRUNK DRIVER
On November 10 at approximately 8
p.m. a Huron OPP officer was sent to a
traffic complaint of a possible impaired
driver southbound on London Road
near Belgrave. While enroute to the
first call, the officer received a second
complaint that the same suspect vehi-
cle had just hit a parked truck in Blyth.
When the officer arrived, he found that
the driver had attempted to leave the
scene but had been unsuccessful.

where he met with a qualified Intoxil-
izer Technician to provide two samples
of his breath. The readings confirmed
that the driver had a blood alcohol lev-
el that was nearly 2 1/2 times above the
legal limit of 80 milligrams.
As a result of the investigation
and the assistance from the public,a
57 -year-old North Huron resident has
been charged with one count of Im-
paired Driving and one count of Drive
with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol.
He will answer to his charges in God-
erich Court on January 21, 2010.
