Break out the brooms and get ready to
rock - curlingseason is back for another
year of on -ice action in Goderich.
The ice at the Maitland Country Club
is ready to go, according to curling club
contact Cory Dulong, and a series of
open houses were held last week to in-
troduce new players to the sport.
"This year the . ice went in really
nice," he said. "We had some nice cool
weather to get it all started"
It takes a few weeks to get the ice just
right, and Dulong said sponsors have
been great to help get things in place.
There is a mix of new and old mem-
bers this year, and Dulong said for any-
one who is new to the sport, the more
experienced players are happy to help.
Its a great way to meet people,"
Dulong said. "It's a great . thing on any
night, if anybody wants to try curling."
The club operates Monday to Thurs-
day starting at 7:30 p.m., however, Du-
long said there are always sheets avail-
able for curlers who want to try it out.
He said there are also weekend op-
portunities for business, families and
anybody else who wants to book a time
on the rink and that there is play and
players for all ages and skill levels.
"We're trying to build on these
nights," Dulong said. "We have people
from 18 to their eighties out there."
League play takes place Mondays and
Tuesdays and again Wednesdays and
Thursdays. Open curling takes place
Wednesday morning at 9:30 and junior
curling takes place at 6 p.m.
The industrial league is open to all
players, and teams are a mix of new and
experienced curlers.
