Born in Bayfield, Weston brought
his passion for music to Europe.

Richard was born on October 5,
1919 in Bayfield.
He very much enjoyed music
and also played hockey, did a lot of
swimming and enjoyed hunting and
shooting.
Overseas he was posted to 407
Squadron - 83 Operational Train-
ing Unit - and finally to RAF 166
Squadron.
He came to love music, and while
overseas formed his own band that
played in between missions and en-
tertained the troops.
WfO Weston was part of a crew
shot down by flak 30 miles northeast
of Poiters, France on their return to
England from Nuremburg. Weston's
body was brought to Choloy from a
temporary American cemetery.

A previous raid on Nuremburg
had disappointing bombing results.
Warrant Officer Weston and his
crew were part of the successful
raid that had the city succumb to the
attack. The industrial areas in the
city's south as well as the M.A.N.
and Siemens factories and railway
yards were seriously damaged.
The raid had a combined aircraft
total of 1,000, with six being lost.
On Weston's grave is the inscrip-
tion: meur' ie-et-mosel le.

Harold was born January 23, 1922
in Lucknow.
He enlisted into the Canadian
Army Nov. 17, 1942 in Copperc-
liffe, Ontario.
Irwin lived for a time on South
Street in Goderich, and completed
his public schooling and two years
of high school here before moving
north to Sudbury.
His training took. him to Farnaham
and St. Jerome in Quebec and Pri-
vate Irwin left Canada for overseas
May 13, 1943 and arrived in Eng-
land May 22.
It is believed that Irwin was killed
by enemy snipers sympathetic to the

Nazis on the very day his unit
rived in Belgium. He was on the
floor of his dormitory when he was
shot. He died at the military hospital
in Ghent, Belgium.
Private Irwin is one of only three
Canadian soldiers buried at the Ad-
egem Canadian War Cemetery.
