weekend thanks to the WCB and
fastball tournament. According
to Harrison, a last-minute call
about to local hotel, motels and
B&Bs Saturday night for accom-
modations were met with "sorry,
we're full" all around.
"It gave people a good reason
to stay around, and they seemed
to enjoy it," he said. "I think it
had a nice economic impact on
the town."
Proceeds from the WCB $10
Walkabout and $25 Big Event
tickets and drink sales will go
back into planning for the fifth
installment in 2010. A portion
of the proceeds is also slated for
donation to The Livery.
"We've been told if you can
survive the first five years as
a festival, from that point on
you're established," Harrison
added. "People are beginning
to know the weekend and that it
will be ongoing, like the Celtic
Festival is, and that's the sort of
thing we'd like to become."
With hundreds of pair of shoes
meandering around the town Fri-
day, there must have been more
than a few cameras; too.
Harrison said the WCB is
eager to see images captured
during the walkabout and Big
Event, and submissions may be
included on the festival web site
at www.westcoastblues.ca.
He added that a video will be
made available online from Sat-
urday's Big Event for those who
may have missed the action, or
would like to relive the experi-
ence.
Submissions can be made via
email at westcoastblues@live.ca.

The South West Local Health
Integration Network will hold
a community meeting on Sept.
16 at 7 p.m. at the Knights of
Columbus Community Hall in
Goderich to share information
about current trends and is-
sues.
The public forum is part of
a series of 17 sessions in com-
munities across the LHIN to
provide an opportunity for the
public to help "shape the fu-
ture of health care in the south
west."
"We want to share some of
our thinking about future direc-
tions for health care and hear
what each community thinks
is important, and address ques-
tions people mayk have•regard-
ing the LHINs themselves,"
said Kelly Gillis, senior direc-
tor of planning, integration and
community engagement for the
South West LHIN.
These public forums will
feature an open -house format
which Gillis said will allow
the public to participate in a
variety of ways. While there
is no requirement to arrive
right at the start, Gillis added
the South West LHIN suggests
participants plan a one-hour
time commitment.
"We've set it up in four dif-
ferent stations," she said. "One
is about the LHIN— what it is
and its role. Two more sta-
tions will address trends, and
our proposed three-year stra-
tegic plan for health services.
In the fourth area, we will be
talking about how we envision
services should be delivered in
the future. At all of these, we'd
like to find out what public
opinions are."
The LHIN will host a total of
17 sessions across the service
area, including a session in
Kincardine Sept. 14.
April 1, 2008 marked the
completion of the first full year
of LHIN authority in Ontario's
health care system.
In 2006, the Ministry of
Health and Long -Term Care
divided the province into 14 re-
gions or Local Health Integra-
tion Networks (more succinctly
known as LHINs) because, it
was thought, people living lo-
cally were better able to plan,
fund and integrate health ser-
vices in their own communities
than people in Toronto. The
South West LHIN is a crown
agency responsible for plan-
ning, integrating and funding
more than 150 health service
providers, including hospitals,
long-term care homes, mental
health and addiction agencies,
community support services,
community health centres
and the South West
Community Care
Access Centre. The
LHIN covers an
area from Lake Erie
to the Bruce Penin-
sula and is home to
nearly one million
people. The 2008/09
health service pro-
vider budget for the
South West LHIN is
$1.9 billion.
