American guests treated to winter blast
Debbie Bauer
Dungannon correspondent
I am happy you could drop by for our visit. You are
looking well these days - yes I mean you. Now, come sit
down I have my cup in one hand.and my pencil in the
other and a lot on my mind. Let's jump in.
Rob and Julie Boak of R.R. 1 Dungannon are proud
new parents. Their son, Branson Aaron. Allen was born
December 24 in Stratford. He came a few weeks early
and I'm told it is believed this was to keep his older
brother Wyatt from having Santa all to himself. This is
a grandson for Bill and Mary Mole and great-grandson
for Betty Mole, all of Dungannon. Congratulations to
everyone.
The Lions New Years Eve Dance was a huge success
with almost 90 attending. Jack Murphy, a singer from
Georgia, keptthe floor hopping with everyone enjoying
the 50's and 60's selections as well as country and pop
music. Jaek and wife Vicky, friends of local Lion mem-
bers George and Barb Smyth, had never been north of
Ohio and loved seeing the snow, but they failed"to appre-
ciate the cold wind. The couple was however more than
happy to be treated to a wide assortment of weather and
interesting events; ice, record floods, a lightning storm,
pea -soup fog, a full day without hydro, a snow fall and
one full day of sunshine. Now that is a good Canadian
welcome! At least we were gentle with them. I do hope
this means they will come back.
At Last report the Lions Club was reworking the skat-
ing rink after the thaw we had. Hopefully everyone will
find the ice in good working condition since our deep-
freeze. Thanks to the Lions for all their hard work.
Jennifer Miltenburg ,headed up the Kingsbridge area
youth group on their recent trip to Costa
Rica. The group worked at helping to fix up
an orphanage in Guadalupe, a suburb of San
Jose. The group did hands-on repairs to walls
and plumbing as well as a variety of other
jobs including helping with an established
feeding program, serving milk and rice twice
a day. The youth group is affiliated through
the St. Joseph's Church in Kingsbridge
which is now officially part of St. Peter's
parish of Goderich. The group, which con-
sisted of 18 youth members (minimum age
of 16) and four chaperones managed a small
break while there to be inspired and amazed
by the Monteverdi Rainforest. The group
also had the chance to do some whitewater
rafting while there.
Everyone is invited to the Dungannon
Ag. Society's Annual Potluck and meeting
on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 6:20 p.m. at the
Agricultural Hall. The Ag. Society has enjoyed a great
year and they want to celebrate with friends and neigh,
bours. Everyone is welcome to attend this great night
out with no obligation to join, however new members
are always welcome. The guest speaker is Barry Millian
talking about his recent trip to Japan and Ben Brown
will be entertaining the crowd. For more information
you can call Ag. Society president, Kelly Thomson at
519-528-2559.
Since last we spoke I had a lovely day out a week ago
Wednesday with Myrah and her mother Monica. Lunch
out included -a very special birthday sundae for Myrah
under the golden arches. We toured Goderich and found
a lovely Goldie Locks Bear pillow that now has a very
good new home. We ended our day out by meeting up
with Wayne.(a.k.a. Pa) and our son Steven, .for a lovely
• dinner out and then topped it off with cake back at their
house and one final Happy Birthday Sweetpea! It was a
perfect day. .
I slipped away for a week to balmy Wiarton where I
spent time visiting my aunt and cousins. I managed a
horrible drive home on Saturday often in white-out con-
ditions and long stretches of major drifting snow. I am
convinced anyone watching would have thought I had
graduated top of the class from the Crazy Canuck Driv-
ing School for the Blind.
My cup is drained dry for another visit but I sure hope
to see you again in two weeks.
Maybe Ill try that new red tea next time. Give me a
call at 519-529-7820 or email me at wdbauer@hurontel.
on.ca and remember if all else fails - blame it on some-
body else and keep smiling.
