We will remember the last Sunday of
2008. With the power being out for some
of our readers for most of the day, folks
went into survival mode. We tried to stay
warm and fed, and many had water to pump
out of their basements.
On Jan. 4 at Knox United Church
Reverend Pat Cook shared the message.
Scripture readings were Psalm 72 and
Matthew 2: 1-12. Their children's hymn
was 'What Child is This'. Their hymn of
preparation was `In the Bleak Midwinter',
and their closing hymn was "I am the Light
of the World'. The Community Care Project
would appreciate donations of children's
warm clothing in any size. They suggest
knitted mitts, hats and slippers, underwear,
socks and personal items.
Recently at Huron Chapel Jordan and
Joel Scott shard their miraculous story that
took them from an extreme sports adventure
on a remote river in Mexico, where Joel's
heart stopped, to a Mexican Hospital and
eventually to Cardiac Care Unit in London

On Jan. 4 at Huron Chapel
the Scripture was Philippians
3: 12-14, and Pastor David
Wood encouraged the congregation to
memorize it this year. In Pastor Wood's
message "Pressing On" he said to "Speak
the truth in Love". Josh Scott was home
for Christmas break from Australia, and
shared about his DTS with YWAM (Youth
With A Mission). Soon after going back,
he will be heading to Indonesia for a 6 week
Mission trip.
A former Auburn resident, Donald Hugh
Ross, passed away on Monday December
15th, 2008 in Oakville after a brief illness.
He was married to Patricia (Trant) for over
53 years. His teaching career took him to
Brucefield, Cambridge , and in 1951 to
Oakville .
Besides being a caring father of 3 and
enjoying his 4 grandchildren, he was a very
active community man and in 1990 was the
recipient of the Howard Caine award for
Community Service. Thanks to Bernice
Anderson and Nancy Park who had kept in
contact with Don, for sharing this informa-
tion.
The Walkerburn Club will meet on
January 12th 209 at the home of Eileen
McClinchey. The roll call will be answered
with recipes for preserves, jam or pickles..
Club members were happy to hear that the
crib quilt "Sailboats" that they made and
donated to Quilts for Cancer, sold for $225.
It was the 10th quilt that the Walkerburn
Club has donated to Quilts for Cancer, and
almost $2800.00 has been raised from the
sale of those quilts.
