BROTHERS DIE SUDDENLY ,
The circumstances Buri ding the
.ieaths of the two Piper bro-
thers, John and Bert, an Monday last
are indeed very sad, and came as a
great surprise and shock to the people
of this community -when it became
known, Mr, John Piper, on hearing of
his mother berg ill an London, went
to that city, on Thursday morning in
company with his sister, 14irs. Lee of
Detroit, and while there met his bro-
ther Bert, and the two had fgone
around the city together. Monday ev-
ening John, came: home, and arriving at
the Centra'1 Hotel remained there for
smile little time. Re. was heard to re-
mark while there. that be ded, auat feel
very well, he having ;a pain about the
heart. He, it.owever, left for hie home
on. Ann street and went to bed, and
some time during the night he passed
away. Tuesday morning a telephone
message had been, sent here .from Lon-
don to inform hien'tint his brother,
Bert had died during ,the night, and
requesting that he go to London at
epee, Miss Davis of. the telephone of-
fice event to deliver the message, but
could get no response sta her rap at
the .door of his home; She immed-
ately consulted Mrs, Rich, ,,Treble, a
neighbor., as to Mr. Piper's where-
abouts, when. she was informed that
he was home:, She went ,beck a sec-
ond time, but as .before she got no
response and going back to Mrs,
Treble the two went over, argil to their
horror they found Mr. Piper was ly-
in pan his back cord in death„ Both
hands wereclenched and it looked as
though he died with a struggle. Cor-
oner I)r ,iIyndrnan was called and
ksrevving of the brother's death :in
London, his suspicions became arous-
ed to London, when, it was found that
the brother (Bert Piper) had died sud-
suidenly and beside hinein bed abotn
tie of woad alcohol had been found.
This made it clear ,as to the cause
of the death of both: On this infor-
mation being received an inquest was
deemed unnecessary; Both were born
in Exeter, John being ,49 and Bert 43
years of age, Neither was married and
the younger hard been overseas with
the Canadian forces. Besides the
mother they are survived by two bro-
thers, William of Sea.£orth and Edward
of Smith's Fislls, and five sisters, Mrs.
G. J. McKinley of Cleveland, Ohio;
Mrs. Harry ,Gale of London, Afes.
Braithwaite pf Detroit, Mrs, Boyd
Kammerer pf Chicago, and Mrs. Lee
of Detrozlt, The body or John. Piper
was token to Landon on Wednesday
and the funeral of .both took place in
that city.
Word was received here by friends
last week pf the death of Jennie Ed-
wards; beloved wife of Mr. Charles H.
l)uplan, station, agent at Barton. who
passed away at the family residence,
Ilderton, on Friday morning, about 10
o'clock .in. her 49th year„ For years
the debeased had' been iii, very delicate
health from the effects of anaemia
This, however, was not the immediate
cause of death, she having contracted
infiuenaa a few days previous to her
demise, and with her already enfeebled
constitution, she was an easy victim of
the ravages Of the dread disease, and
the end came rapidly. Mrs. Duplex'
was of lovable disposition and was a
model wife and mother, being of an
exceedingly affectionate disposition,
kind and cnonsiiderate, and was admired
by allfor the beauty of her Christian
character, Deceased was a resident of
Centralia for a number of years, but
moved to Ilderton about five years ago
She was well known to many in Exeter
and her demise will go home with sad-
ness to the. hearts of many here and
other , places where she was known.
Besides the sorrowing husband she is
survived by two sons, Harold of Lon-
don, and Rev. Austin Duplay of Alvin-
ston, Rev. Clarence, the eldest son,
died a little over three years' ago.
Temporary .interment was made at
Mount Pleasant Mausoleum, London:
