THE SPRING DRIVE
Our boys are going i= Over the top"
and into ". No man's land" this spring.
No one has any, doubt of their ability
to get there. There will also be a
spring • drive on this side of the ,'ocean,
because March is the year's 'r blue Mon-
day." It is the most fatal month of the
year. March and April is a time when
resistance usually is at lowest ebb. It
is a trying season for the " run-down"
man. But medical science steps in, and
gays,'" it need not be" 1 We should
cultivate a love of health, a sense of
responsibility for the care of our bodies.
Do not allow the machinery of the body
to clog, Put the stomach and liver in
proper condition. Take Dr. Pierce's
Golden Medical Discovery, to be had at.
most drug stores in tablet or liquid
form, tablets fifty cents a vial, com-
posed of native herbs. This puts the
stomach and liver in proper condition.
You may be plodding along, no spring,
-no elasticity, no vim, but as soon as you
have put the body into 118 normal physi-
cal condition -oiled d the machinery?

WO MORE SOLI)LRS,
Action of British Government May
Anger Labor Dien.
LONDON, March 11. -Three deci
sleets of great importance to lab()
have beep, arrived at in the last 2
hours. The first is the announcemen
that the Government has decided t
proceed witli the recruiting of 50,00
coalminers; the second is the agree
went reached withthe machinists
which it is hoped will bring abou
amicable co-operation in recruiting
additional mepfor the army from
their ranks; and the third is the
averting of the threatened strike o
70,000 tramway and 'bus employes
by an increase of $5 in the weekly
wage over the figure that was paid
before the war.
The deeisi'on regarding the coal
miners was unexpected, as the min-
ers had not finished taking a ballot
of the entire membership as to whe-
ther to accept the Government plan
of recruiting. .4.
The opinion in labor circles is that
the order, which becomes effective
March 21, will tend to .revive unrest
lit the mining districts. A miners'
conference in February demanded the
calling of a meeting of the triple in-
dustrial alliance to dealwith the Gov-
ernment
overnment regarding the raising of the
exemption, in the income tax, the
plans to expand Government control
of all foodstuffs and to equalize their
distribution and the elimination ' of
excess profits. It also was demanded
that the Government should make
hotter provision -for feeding children,
and provide generous, pensions for
soldiers and sailors.
The Miners' Federation, which has
a membership of more than 600,000,
has'more than 50,000 hien` serving
with the colors. It has been select -
ng the men to enter the army ae-
ording to local conditions and with
egard to the safe working of mines.
The leaders of the miners' unions in
fnost of the districts of Great Britain
hold the view that practically every
pan' who can be spared with safety
heady has enlisted. '
In these circumstances it is not
ikely that the Government's order
will be taken favorably by the min-
rs. It is feared that owing to the
onflicting attitude in various dis-
ricts the order may cause' dissensions
etween those supporting the comb -
ng -out process and those opposed to
t, with the result that the miners
ill vote to defy the order.
