Ar- rangements were made for the rent- ing or the ground and, the Crop Com- petitioa Owing to the breaking of the electric light wires in several places by the wind on good. Friday there were no lights that ,night, and peo- ple were obliged to hunt up the :oal' oil lamps. After two weeks of no church set' vices large congregations attended the services of Sunday. The pastors were all ia their own pulpits and it ,being Easter the sermons and music were appropriate to the occasion. The people of Ontario thought the wind was heavy on Friday but it apparently could not have been a patch to the Sunday Cyclone in the middle western states, where hundreds were killed and thousands injured Miss Irno Sweet, daughter of Mr, and Mrs Sam'l Sweet, was operated on. in London `on Friday ,last for nose and throat trouble. The operation was a success and the patient, is do- ing nicely Mr. and Mrs, Sweet were present at the operation. The rector of the Trivitt Memorial Church preached special Easter ser- mons to good sized congregations,ae Sunday His discourses were eloquent and able in keeping with the occas- ion and proved deeply interesting. The choir rendered special Easter music which was also much enjoyed. The death took place at Whitby on Saturday last of Dr. W. 0. Eastwood, father of. Mrs. J. G. Stanbury of Ex- etex. at the age of 82 years. He bad been it failing health for some time. Mrs Stanbury was at the bedside,she having been called to Whitby last week,The funeral took place Mon - da', aternoon. Mrs. Stanbury the sympathy of her many friends. , SUDDEN DEATh.-- Mr. Samuel Crawford, 80 years of age, and Mrs. Crawford, having missed the train at Brussels on Wednesday morning, drove to Exeter to attend the funeral of the late Mrs. Kay, and arrived snly a few ,moments before the funeral Aftei being in the house a short time he found it too warm andon be- ing .taken out he fainted and almost iinmediately passed away of heart trouble following on the fatigue of driven,• so far. The remains will be taken to Brussels for interment. DEATH OF MRS. KAY. --There passes. away at her home south of the village on Sunday, March 23rd Elizabeth Glenn, beloved wife of Mr. Thomas M. Kay; at the age of 65 years. Her death was rather sudden and very unexpected. The deceased was a victim of asthma, from which she has been a long sufferer, but the immediate cause of death was the re- sult of an attack of pneumonia, con- tracted about four weeks ago. For severs: days her life hung in the bal- ance but she began to improve and gave promise of a complete recovery and latterly was able to leave her bed and attend to her household duties, but on Sunday morning about 1.3(1 o'clock she was seized with a sudden fit, ot'•vomiting and in a few short ntonieitts all was at an end. Mrs.Iay was born near Lumley, being a daugh- ter at, the late John Glenn, and all her life was spent at that place, antil sexteer years ago wheat she married her flow bereft husband, and she has since resided here. Mrs. lay was ad- mire:, and esteemed for her many good qualities of heart and head but what inspired real affection in a wide circle of friends were those of a kind heart. The deceased was a valued member of the Presbyterian phurci. and was admired for her chrestian character.
