Exeter Advocate, 1906-4-19, Page 7A SWUNG TONIC, Weak, Tired and Depressed People Need a 'Tonic at This Season to Put the Blood Bight.. Spring blood is bad blood. Indoor life during the winter months is respan- siblo for weak, watery, impure blood, Wu heed a tonic to build up the blood in the spring just as much as a tree heeds new sap to give It vitality for the surnrner. In the spring the bad blood shows itself in many way,s, In some it breeds pimples and eruptions. in ethers it maybe through occasional headaches, a variable appetite, perhaps twinges of neuralgia, or rheumatism, or a lazy feeling in the morning and a desire to avoid 'exertion. For these spring ailments it is a tonin you need, and the greatest blood -making, health - giving tonic in all the world is Dr, Wil - Bums' Pink Pills. Every dose helps to make new, rich, red, health -giving bloody which reaches every nerve .and every organ in the body, bringing health, strength and energy to weak, despondent, ailing men and women. Here is proof. Mrs. Chas. Blackburn, Aylesford Station,, N. S. says: "For the past ten years Dr. Williams' Pink Pills is the only medicine .I have taken when I found L needed a medicine. Last Spring Iwas feeling poorly, was weak, easily tired and depressed. I got three boxes and they made me feel like a new person. These pills are the best medicine I know of when.- the blood -13 out of order." Thousands of people not actually sick. need a tonic in the spring, and to all these a box or two of Dr. Williams' Pins Pills will bringnew energy and new strength. To those who may be more seriously ailing, who are 'suffer- ing from any of the ailments lee In bad blood—a fair treatment : with fleet; pills will brig, new health and vitally You can get these pills from any ule'i cine dealer or by mall from the Dr. Wil- liams' Medicine Co., Brockville, Ont., at. 50 cents a box or six boxes for $2.50 CURING THE DISH -WASHER. An English Householder's, Experience • in India. The experience of an English house- holder in India are declared, by the au- thor of "An Indian Garden,' to, be sometimes trying and often amusing. An instance of one of ethe amusing ex- periences is given: The old gray -bearded butler announc- ed to me at luncheon one day that the dish -washer was ill with fever, bur if the mistress would give some medicine ho would soon be able to resume his 'work. 1 happened to have none by mc, but as the matter was urgent,• clean dishes being important, T asked: "Can he go to the chemist's, do you think, for some physic if I give him a letter? I don't know what to write for." "Oh, yes," he said, "he is quite able to go that short distance." "I thought •that was much the best way, and then the chemist could give bite what was proper.. So I wrote: "Please give the bearer a dose of medicine. He "says -.he has fever." I forgot to inquire about him till two days after. Then I said: • "How is the dish -washer?" "He is much better, your honor." "And then he took the physic?" "No, your highness, the bazaar coolie Look the physic by mistake." "The bazaar coolie!" I exclaimed. "What for?" "The dish -washer said, 'Work is, therefore cannot go myself; bazaar coo- lie goes errands; he may fetch me the physic.' So bazar coolie took letter. Shop master prepared physic, then told bazaar coolie to drink it. "Coolie said, 'Not for me is the medi- cine, but for another man. I take it to him.' "'Not so,' said the shop master. 'The mistress has written, "Give to bearer," and she means you must drink it here.' "Many times Coolie said he was not the man, but they would not listen, and they made him drink it." SAFETY FOR CHILDREN. Baby's Own Tablets is the only medi- eine_that gives the mother the guaran- tee of a ..government analyst, that • it contains no poisonous opiate and is absolutely . safe. This is worth much to every mother who cares for the fu- ture welfare of her child. The Tablets are good for the tenderest baby or for the well grown boy or girl, and cure the minor troubles that, are inseparable from childhood. Mrs. W. J. Macintosh, Clam Harbor, N. S. says: "I have used Baby's Own Tablets for constipation, vomiting and colds and have found "Them a splendid medicine. I give the Tablets all the, credit for the splendid bealth.my little one now enjoys." The wise mother will always keep a box of these Tablets on band. They eon be got from any druggist tor by mail from The Dr. Williams' Medicine Co., Brock- ville, Ont., at 25 cents a box. 'LOSS OF :LIFE IN COAL MINES. With terrible regularity one is re- minded of the dangers of coal -getting. Not a single week passes but that mine accidents occur in great Britain; and whilst the loss of life averages twenty lives per week, the number of repart- ee injuries IS about four times as many. I., is remarkable how colliery disasters occur year after year, involving almost the same loss of life in the course c; one year as m the previous 'twelve months. in 1000 the total number of lives lost in coal -mines was 1.,012, and th the following twelve months 1,101 eaters were killed, In 1902 the death roll .numbered 1,024, was increased by 481 the following emcee and only by L in. 1904. During the past eight yeasts over 5,000 'Ives have been lost in our collieries, and for every death there are several maimings. II0USEI:1OLD COMPLAINTS. "I declare IL is dreadful the way peo- ple treat me," complained the Winslow, "t am always ready to shed light en Any. subject, yet I am frequently . shut up.' • "l ooh et ; me," returned the Door. It Is my dady'custetm to afford people an 1penitlg, yet they are always giving snit, knocks." ABYSSINIAN MONLWVf . Act Very Much Like Human Creatures of the Country. Very sirxiilar reports are made frgm different parts of North Africa in regard to the monkey tribes that occupy that continent from Morocco to Abyssinia.. Just how far tribal relations may have tended to vary fele species is a question. quite as important as that of language, to which Professor Garner has given so much study, Some points of interest are found in an English book, "A Visit to Abyssinia." I have mentioned that large numbers of monkeys frequent these frills. They move , about . in organized bands, and their proceedings are arranged in the most orderly and tactical manner. They are difficult to annroach, unless it is gab dually and cautiously done; but 1 have succeeded on a camel in getting within a few' yards of them when they were crossing the path ahead of me, about fifty ire single file following their leader, and looking with their manes like small lions. Their movements are fullof interest, and . well repay observation; they have chiefs, sentries, and advanced and rear guards on the march. The mothers car- ry their children on their backs exactly like the larger human creatures in these countries. They talk and chatter, the females being especially loquacious, quarrelsome and combative. These are dead•- under the command of the elder males, whose gesture alone is sufficient to reduce them to obedience. They live in small caverns among the hills, but willmost t certainly avoid a direct return to their' haunts if followed. They are less timid of men when these are mounted on camels than when on foot, experience . having doubtless : taught them that the former is usually travel- ling to a destination, and that his steady, • jogging pace is rarely inter- rupted he his curiosity. On one occasion I saw a whole fam- ily tribe on the redid. home after a forag- ing excursion, and successfully tempted some of, the younger one onese to leave their ranks by quietly roiling pieces of bread and sugar at them; but the older mem- bers were above such weakness, and went on in a stately way up the hill, disappearing over the ledge, and re- proving the youngsters as they retired. i RAINY RIVER MAN HAD TROUBLES TILL DODD'S KIDNEY PILLS CURED HIS KIDNEYS. 7 hen His Rheumatism and Other Pains Vanished Once -and For All - His Case Only One of Many. • Barwick, Ont., Apr. '9 — (Special). — That Dodd's Kidney Pills will cure Rheumatism, or any other disease re- sulting from disordered Kidneys is the experience of many of the settlers in this 'Rainy River country. The case of Wil- ham John Dixon, of this place, is a fair sample of the work the great Canadian Kidney Remedy is doing. "I had Rheumatism so had I had to use a stick to walls. I had pains in my back and right hip, and I had no com- fort in sleeping. "I could no more than dress or un- dress myself for nearly two months, and I was. for nearly three weeks l could not lace my right shoe. "My brother advised me to try Dodd's IIeEdney Pills, and I did so. After taking three boxes I could walk around and lace up my shoes and do my work. Six boxes cured me completely." Dodd's Kidney Pills are the one sure cure for sick Kidneys. Sick Kidneys are the cause of nine -tenths of the ills the human family suffers from. THIS WAY TO FORTUNE, PLEASE! Work done is the criterion of ability; not promises, not boasts. Accept every experience as an educa- tor. Look for the lesson contained; it is there. e Don't let your work end with think- ing and talking. Act. If you get an idea, try it. out to a conclusion. Talk to the point. Don't waste time. on preliminaries. The manwho, in a lowly -position, gives proof of zeal and ability, is al- ways the man who later is found occu- pying a remunerative position of trust and responsibility. Work is not an end in itself; simply a means to an end. A humble position should be utilized as an opportunity to prove merit. for a higher post. To do your best is simply a matter of doing justice to yourself; to refuse to de` so is to hide your light under la bushel, which others have neither time nor inclination to lift. Sometimes a man may find himself engaged upon work which he tirinllss (and perhaps rightly thinks) affords no scope for his real abilities. There is a tendency under Such circumstances to perform his duties in a prefunctery man- ner. Why? It is by the performance of work, and not by the class of work that ability is measured. • Flannery—"What that do they cll.irge for a house like yours?" Finnegan - "Sivin dollars." Flannery --"My, tira0; high. Don't ye have throuble gett'n' it together? Finnegan—"Faith, 01 delft, but the agent does." SALT MAN'S HARVEST 110ME.. One of the remarkable sights in the Great Salt Lake of Wain, developed by the progress of scientific ,industry, is the system of immense salt making ponds on the shore of the lake. At Saltair the lake water is pumped Into a great settling basin, where the impuri- ties fall to the bottom, and, containing much iron, form a reddish deposit. From thie basin the water is drawn''off into "harvesting ponds," averaging 900,- 000 square yards in area and six Inches in depth. The ponds are kept supplied with water, as the evaporation goes on from May to September, when the salt harvest begins. The water having disap- peared, a dazzling layer of salt, two cr three inches thick, is found covering the bottom of the ponds, and' this is broken up with ploughs before being conveyed to Ilse milts, where the final crushing and winnowing are done.
