Tory.
The short decisive campaign and the
election on Nov, 3rd are now things of
the past, and the electors have decided
to give the Liberals, with Sir Wilfred
Laurier as Premier, another term in
office. The Cabinet' Ministers, with
the exception of Aylesworth, were re-
elected by large majorities. Mr. Bor-
den, the leader of the. opposition in
the last parliament, was defeated in
Halifax by 22. Hon Geo. E. Foster,
against whom a most bitter campaign
was conducted, was elected as the
Conservative member for North To-
ron to.
The Conservatives of Huron County
have reason to feel proud of the fact
that all three ridings elected Conserv-
ative members instead of three Liber-
als as was the ease in 1900. In South
Huron Mr. B. B. Gunn, of Seaforth,
received a majority of 111 over Mr.
Thomas Fraser, of Brucefield. This is
the first time since Confederation that
South Huron has elected a Conserva-
tive to the House of Commons. Mayor
Lewis, of Goderich beat the late mem-
ber for West Huron, Mr. Robt. Holmes,
editor of the New Era, Clinton, by
76. That old political war horse, De.
MacDonald, of East Huron, who has
been the member for 18 years, was
handsomely beaten by Dr..Chisholm,
of Wingham by 182.
Perth County chose one Liberal and
one Conservative, respectively Mr.
McIntyre in the South, and Mr. A. F.
McLaren in the North.
In North Middlesex Mr. Valentine
Ratz, Independent, was elected by;434
over Me. Robert Boston, the Liberal
nominee. East Middlesex remained
Conservative and 'West Middlesex re-
mained Liberal. London reduced Hon.
C. S. Hynlan's majority from 547 down
to 23.
North Bruce gave a Conservative-
majority and South Bruce a Liberal
majority. '

Our public school has been closed for
a week on account of the scarlet fever
in the neighborhood. The Board of
Health is taking every means within
their power to check the disease and
it is to be hoped they will succeed. -
Revival meetings commenced in the
Evangelical church on Sunday even-
ing. Rev. Yaeger, of Zurich is assist-

these series of meetings will be of great
spiritual help to all. -Miss Vivian Bea-
ver• spent a few.days the past week in
London with friends. -Several of our
young people held a surprise party at
Mrs. Klein's on Friday evening. The
evening was spent in a very enjoyable'
manner. -The Misses Canting and Mr.

has been visiting relatives in Pigeon

Frn,E.-Our village was visited by
the fire fiend Monday morning about
10 o'clock and at one time our homes.
and business places looked doomed.
The fire originated in the rear of Jac.
Holtzman's tailor shop and how it
started is still A mystery. The build-
ing was totally destroyed, but most of
the contents were saved. Mr. Holtz
man's loss is fully covered by insur-
ance. The fire became- so fierce that
the frame addition to Mr. B. Brown's
boot and shoe store took fire.. The men
and women worked bard and succeed-
ed in quenching the fire, but not until
half the roof.had been burned and the
top story gutted. The people now only
realize the danger our burgh was in
and are feeling thankful that the fire
did not spread. Our fire engine did its.
duty. 'rhe women of the village de-
serve .the greatest praise for their
splendid. work. They organized several
bucket brigades, which helped a great
deal to conquer the fire. Oor Citizens
are' talking of getting more fire fight-
ing appliances. Now is the time to
"strike while the iron IS hot.".
